Have you checked the deep litter method? I have never cleaned my coop the poop is just there breaking down. If your coop stays dry it doesn't smell at all. In the spring I will clean everything out and mix it in the soil for our veggie garden.
Thanks for posting this!!!
I have been looking for pictures of Black Australorp eggs and this was very helpful. We have 6 different breed and our BA is the only one that hasn't laid an egg yet and she is 23 weeks today! I am hoping this week we get something from her. She is a very sweet...
how would you set up brooder
Hello Jeannem,
I used a lawn mower box for my brooder and every time I went to clean, my 6 babies would freak out thinking I would attack them. Later, I read that if you make accessible from the side on a table level they wouldn't go crazy.
Then I put the brooder...
I got mine to use the nipples by shoving their beak in the nipple until they felt the water. And during a hot day, I left them without the water bowl for a couple of hours and I used a long stick to touch the nipple to make the water sprinkle, they noticed the water and started to peck and to...
We love ours!!!
I am not sure if mine is pure bred, but the one they sold me as Dominique has a very unique character.
· What made you decide to get this breed?
We wanted a barred rock first, but I saw how this was in the danger list, so we decided to try both!
· Do you own...
We love our girl, my wife calls her the chicken with the "Elvis" hair.
She is the bravest in our flock of 6 chickens, she runs to me when I come with food, meanwhile all the other ones are afraid of my hands.
She is definitely draws attention and everybody that meets her make a comment of how...
Chicken coop update! :D
Got some of it done. It's been fun so far, I am sure I will have to tweak a lot, but I am excited with the outcome so far.
The wood I replaced so far I got it from the Home Depot 70% discounted pile. My chickens don't mind that the 2x4 isn't perfectly straight :D...
Chicks arrived and they are in my simple cardboard box brooder :D
We had a few days that the temperature was above 50F and I got the wire off to replace with hardware cloth!
I already found some wood to replace the rotten ones and will get back to work when spring is back! :D
Thank you, I put that in my shopping list, but I didn't know if would be the correct thing to do.
I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can start working on the coop :)
Hello,
Do you guys have pictures of your coop with clear roof? I live in western new york and clear roof would be ideal for me. I am looking for ideas for the ridge cap, the vendor has a clear roof ridge cap but it seems kind of pricey to me.
Thanks!
