Of course getting water droplets shaken onto the bulb will not be good. But for me, there is a more subtle solution to long bulb life: NEVER let your fingertips touch the lamp! The oil on your skin will transfer to the lamp, and create that uneven hot spot.

This must be so exciting for the new owner!! I can clearly remember my first ducks--and also my latest shipment, which was every bit as exciting. I can only wish PATOS good luck, and godspeed with his new flock!
@missLydia: Oh yes, thank you, dear! That one brief scare was the only negative thing so far in the entire flock. And now they are getting so big! Soon, they will move outside of the garage. Just as soon as most of our winter is over, they can go to the outdoor home.
