How much is feed where you are?

I have mine stored in a rubbermaid bin. I don't think a 50 lb bag is out of line. With only 3 chicks, that should last until they're close to being ready for big bird feed. Either way, it'll get eaten and won't go to waste.

$13.50 for a 50 pound bag of chick starter at my local co-op.

    Milk Crates for Nest Boxes?

PaulaJoAnne - thanks for the idea. I just finished setting my crates. I need to add the litterboard on the top row, but I wanted to pass along a photo. I have 9 nesting boxes now!

    Cost Of Coop ($5K!?)

I have right at $300 invested in mine, including $100 for a 150' roll of 6' chicken wire. My biggest expense was roughly $140 for plywood. I scavanged scrap wood from work and a generous uncle donated 10 12' 2x4's & enough 2x6's for the base. A co-worker had 2 bundles of shingles that he gave me.

How many chickens do we all have? 60,083 and counting.

My 8 brings the total to 27,800 even!

    Some of my young 'uns

Yeah, I went the Noah route - 2 of each! Australorpes, White Leghorns, RI Reds, & 2 who's name eludes me at the moment. They're brown - one of the girls is the very furtherest chicken in the photo.

    Milk Crates for Nest Boxes?

Quote: I love it! I am heading out tomorrow to find some crates. My hens aren't sitting age yet, but I want to get the nesting boxes done.

    Hello from Alabama!

Just completed my coop and bought 8 young hens! A friend sent me the link to this site and it has been a tremendous help. I built a 6'x6' hen house with a print from here and added a 22'x22' run. I have a few finishing touches to go, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
