How much is feed where you are?

I pay .60 cents a lb for medicated chick starter, chick grit, and chick scratch. What are prices like where you live? My four 1 week old chicks go through about 2-3 lbs of chick starter a week, and the scratch is a once every three day treat. I go to Bradshaw Feed in Sacramento.

Everything I buy is in 50 lb sacks!! I pay $12.49 for a Layena, $9.29 for scratch grains and $14.49 for Purina Start & Grow medicated chick starter!! I get everything from Tractor Supply!!

$13.50 for a 50 pound bag of chick starter at my local co-op.

I get Chicks from Bomgaars in Iowa, and I get feed from either Tractor Supply but most often a locally owned feed store called Lakeside COuntry Store. $13.00 - $14.00 for Purina Layer (50 lbs) and for the chick starter I only buy 1 or 2 bags (5 lbs. each) of Purina Start & Grow Medicated. (since I only get 2-3 chicks at a time) I paid $3.99 for one bag.

Alright another question then. I will be thinning out my flock by one chick. I have four, but only want three, well can only HOUSE three. Would it be silly for me to buy a 50 lb back of feed? Will it go bad and how long can it stay good? What are some storing idea's? Thanks all. I will have 3 chickens, just to reiterate.

Cheaper to buy it that way, that's for sure!! I use a metal garbage can that stays in my coop. For the chicks I keep the bag inside and use a rubbermaid bin from Wal-Mart!

I buy from the local Southern States by my house in Va. and it is now has chicken feed on sale, $9.99 @50 lb. bag of starter and grower, and $7.99 for 50lb. of layer pellets. I took my pick up truck and got 9 bags of pellets and will go again tomorrow and get more of the starter and grower.

I don't think a 50 lb bag is out of line. With only 3 chicks, that should last until they're close to being ready for big bird feed. Either way, it'll get eaten and won't go to waste.

I'm in Australia, and I am pretty sure it's about 50 cents a pound here - or $1 per kilo.
I know the 50lb bag of certified organic feed is $40 AUS - which currently converts to about $45 US for 50lbs.
