    Speckled Sussex Egg Laying

Thanks! I live in inland Southern California where we don't really get much of a winter, as it's still in the mid 80s and sunny lately. So if my SS already stopped laying back in September...that seems a bit early for winter?

    Speckled Sussex Egg Laying

Hi! I have 7.5 month old Speckled Sussex hen that started laying around 5 months. She was laying about 3-4 eggs a week, and then about a few weeks ago she's stopped laying. She's healthy and active, and when she free ranges the hens are kept on a close watch because we have hawks in the area, so...

Losing hope with chicks that hate me 😣

My chicks are 6-8 weeks and do not like to be held or petted by me either. They run away from me as well. They like my 3.5 year old boy though. They're less fearful of him because of his size, and I let him be the one to hand them treats. I wish they would not fear me either, but I'm glad they...

Should I Put The Chicks Outside? Yes? No?

Mine were out at 4 weeks in the coop with overnight low's in the 50s. Prior to that I was bringing them out during the daytime with highs in the 60s to 70s and leaving them out in their brooder box under the covered patio to slowly acclimate and then bringing them back in the garage overnight.

6-8 Weeks Old - Are they pullets?

Hi there! My chicks are now at least 6-7 weeks old, with the exception of the Speckled Sussex which is at least 7-8 weeks. Do I have all pullets? Thanks! Vivienne (Speckled Sussex, 7-8 weeks old) Claire (Olive Egger, 6+ weeks old) Alice (Easter Egger, 6+ weeks old) Gwendolyn (Buff...

3.5 Week Old Chicks - Possible Roo?

I suspect my 3.5 week old Buff Orpington chick might be a roo? I noticed some light pink/red appearing around its beak area... Here is my 3.5 week old Easter Egger. Does it look like a pullet or a roo?

    Chicks Still Eating Pine Bedding

Hi! I noticed that my chicks since I got them at 2 days old were eating the pine bedding. So I switched to paper towels and also tried the puppy pad method. That helped them. Now they are almost 4 weeks old and I decided to give it try and switch back to the pine bedding. They went back to...

    Baby Chicks Acclimating Quicker

Ever since I've brought them home when they were only a couple days old, I've been placing their brooder box out on my backyard patio without the heat plate on (the first two weeks have been in the high 80s outside). In the evening, I move the brooder box back into our garage and turn on the...

    Baby Chicks Acclimating Quicker

That's really good to know! Thanks for the helpful information. I live in Southern California and the next few weeks we're looking at highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s. I'm finishing up their coop this weekend. Do you think they would be able to move in to it around 3.5 - 4 weeks based on how...

    Baby Chicks Acclimating Quicker

Thanks for the insight! All of them have a good amount of feathers, so that is probably helping them adjust better. The chicks are adorable - and growing so quickly!
