I wash my fresh eggs with warm water and dry them before I put them into my fridge to be eaten. It will also help of you put some hay in their nesting boxes of you have any. It will also not hurt you to eat ferilized eggs as long as they aren't too old.

Thanks, Turks! Sorry that my reply is so late. I have ran my hen off of her best and disposed of her eggs, but she is still trying to lay in her empty best. Poor girl. Guess I'll just try again.
I haven't gotten an incubator yet and my hen has been sitting on her eggs for around 14 days. She's only sitting on 2 eggs and they are small, as her breed is a Sumatra. How long should it take for me to be able to tell if her eggs have chicks inside them or not?
