Fly strike & possible rat attack

I had to cut off alot of feathers around his leg, and rinse out hundreds of maggots, mostly tiny ones but not a small amount of very large maggots as well ... He has full movement of his leg and only seems to be in pain when he puts weight on it.

Fly strike & possible rat attack

I got the photos, I completely forgot to post them last night ... But he's doing so much better today ... I have him on our back porch, in a small dog crate at night, but during the day I've been keeping it open, he seems to like it, maybe he feels safe idk ... The picture of him in the cage was...

Fly strike & possible rat attack

The little ones are close but separate, they're in the nice coop so thankfully no rats in there so far ... The big chickens have a less nice coop that desperately needs an upgrade... I figured rats wouldn't be a danger to them since they're so big

Fly strike & possible rat attack

I've definitely thought about cats ... Unfortunately I have some smaller chickens right now, I'm worried about the cats going for them too ... When they get bigger definitely finding a cat or 2 to hang out around the coop

Fly strike & possible rat attack

Our biggest rooster overheated a few days ago, he's big and active and doesn't stop to care for himself if he feels "at risk" ... We're fighting a big rat problem this summer and he's killed a few himself already, so I assume he's been worried about the rats and not drinking ... Well he decided...

HELP! TURKEY EGG FOAMING AROUND PIP!

I've only hatched a few eggs now, but it sounds like the humidity may have been too high. Like the air sac had too much liquid in it or something

    Lost Chick

Also, the part about momma stepping on the babies and stuff seems to just be her not paying attention or something, most of the time they're fine but she hurt ones leg yesterday, it's fine now but it was limping for a few hours.... Also, I've tried playing cheeping sounds on YouTube and getting...

    Lost Chick

No luck ... Our woods are covered in vines and shrubs, and the chick is really small. The only reason we even found the rest of them is because of the noise they were making. This one just shot off when we gathered up the rest, probably got scared and tried to get away ... It stop cheeping after...

    Lost Chick

So unfortunately, our mama hen seems to be a bit neglectful ... We let her and the babies run around the yard (3 acres) while we cleaned the coop. We had to clean it pretty good because we found 2 chicks trampled over night ... They're less than a month old and she takes care of them but I've...

New Momma Hen, and a silkie situation

Yeah, the others are white and tan, honestly things haven't been going well integrating the silkies ... I probably will have to keep them separate unfortunately... But as long as they're happy and safe I guess it's okay

New Momma Hen, and a silkie situation

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, and I apologize in advance for the wall of text. But long story short, we have a bunch of 3 month old chicks, most of them are big enough to go out with the big chickens and integration has been going well. The problem comes from the 4 silkies...

New Momma and a Silkie Situation

He's a couple months over a year old. He acts tough but I've seen him run from a squirrel that went for the food. And I've considered wrapping the chicken area in something with smaller holes, it'll just be a decent chunk of money to wrap around the whole thing, but I might have to do it anyways.

New Momma and a Silkie Situation

For reference, the left little chicken head is one of the silkies last night, and the right little chicken head is one of the hatched chicks.

New Momma and a Silkie Situation

We used a dog crate initially but a couple of the neighbors cats have been pacing the chicken area trying to find a way in ... I have it locked up pretty tight and don't think they can, but the silkies are pretty small and might be able to fit through the holes. An escaped chicken is easy enough...

New Momma and a Silkie Situation

I apologize in advance for the wall of text. But long story short, we have a bunch of 3 month old chicks, most of them are big enough to go out with the big chickens and integration has been going well. The problem comes from the 4 silkies we have, they're absolutely tiny ... Which is fine, I...
