Very sad news from Roy Sumner of Sumner Byrd. Over the years Roy Sumner has been extremely generous with his time and knowledge, helping many Wake, Durham and Chatham county back yard chicken owners get up and running. Roy's business has been a valuable resource to the community. He's had...
Hi LoneOak,
Have you gone through winter with this watering system yet? I want to do something very similar with the horizontal water nipples, but I wonder if the pipes won't freeze? Any suggestions?
thanks!
Hi Sophiesmith,
First... Don't panic! They may not be egg bound.
You mentioned a few of your chickens stopped laying. It would be quite a coincidence for more than one to be egg bound at the same time. Instead, it could be just the time of year. As the days get shorter, chickens slow down...
There was another thread this morning on introducing new birds, so I'm copying what I posted there. My main concern with your posting, though, is that I don't see you mentioning if you quarantined your birds before introducing them? this is important - you don't want to bring sick birds into...
Hi Miss Pearl,
Sometimes it is hard to give advice because each setting is different, so what works for me may not work for you. I've introduced new pullets to old ones several times, without first letting them see each other. Of course, only introduce new members to the flock after they've...

So sorry for your EE -

Good morning!
So... I have two wonderful roosters, father and son, and I was planning to keep them both, but they started to fight. The son is challenging the father, so I must either find him a home or... You know what... The father is a Dark Brahma, the son's mother a Buff Orpington. He is...
Oh, I have too many stories of my rooster being brave and attacking predators... here are two:
Big Foot is my Dark Brahma rooster. He is very aware of hawks and any other predators. One day a hawk landed and Big Foot sent all his hens under the coop and stood staring at the hawk and making...
