When I play music, my chicks freeze

My opinion is that they actually LIKE hearing the music. I know mine respond to different songs. Chickens love music. Keep playing. You'll soon learn which songs are their favorites.

    Curious question...

I have a couple that jumped in an already occupied nest. One was doing it because she wanted to start laying but was a chicken (pun intended) and didn't want to do it alone. A couple have done it because a hen in their favorite nest was taking too long. It's not happening too much any more...

    Coop Behavior

I put a 4x4 three feet away from the door so that not as much debris interferes with the door

My little dude doesn’t like when the girls fly around and spaz

The young rooster we had (before we had to rehome him) did that, too. He was always so laid back until the girls did their "Olympics". (Seeing who could fly or jump the furthest, etc) He hated them being so rambunctious. There were only 3 things that made him take charge, bedtime (he would round...

Do you play music for your chickens?

Our girls definitely respond to different songs. Was first noticed at a few weeks old. They LOVED One Republic"s Somebody to Love. Hubby plays them a lot of classic rock. A rooster we had to rehome went to a farm that plays country 24/7 for the chickens. I might have to integrate permanent music...

Hen putting weird items on her back??

I have a few that do that while in nesting box. So funny to watch!

    Chicken counting eggs

She's always been obsessive. I think she's been laying about 2 months (I didn't start my excel sheet right away). But the being picked on has really only been going on a couple weeks.

    Chicken counting eggs

She's actually been my most reliable layer. When her favorite box is in use, she has no problems using another. I'll try and get pictures soon but I'm getting ready to make some changes before winter sets in. I actually put a 12" wall/barrier to discourage her form poking her head in nests while...

    Chicken counting eggs

New to chickens. I have 8 hens, 3 Golden Comets, 3 Cinnamon Queens, 1 Australorp, and 1 that was SUPPOSED to be a Barred Rock (but clearly isn't). Anyway, they've all started laying with minimal issues. My smallest, a golden comet, was the first to start. But her behavior is kind of odd. She is...
