Has anyone used the A Frame Chicken Tractor plans from Green Willow Homestead?

Thanks so much for your interest in our plans! Since many of the people who responded here are not familiar with our plans I thought it important to chime in. Most of our customers are actually warm-climate chicken keepers - from Florida to Lousiana to Brazil! The A-frame tractor has plenty of...

    SOS Hens not drinking water

We have 70 birds on our farm and recently relocated them to the barn for the winter. We also switched up their waterers to a heated waterer. The waterers they had all summer had a green base and were gravity fed. The new ones had a red base and are also gravity fed. We realized the hens weren't...

Winterizing ideas for a mobile chicken tractor.

Hi there! We have three beautiful chicken tractors we built this spring (see picture) and our initial plan for winter was to park them inside three separate secondhand ShelterLogic-style sheds from November to March. The tractors are 8x10' and the sheds we wanted to get are 10x20'. We plan on...

Deciding which roosters to keep and which to eat

Hi there! I am struggling on knowing what qualities to look for when keeping roosters for breeding stock. We are hoping to keep three to each have their own flock of hens. We have ... (Examples) four Blue Laced and two Splash Wyandotte roosters in the line up. Size? Temperament? Loud crowers...

    Feeding chicks 18% layer feed?

I have 14 blue laced wyandottes coming my way tomorrow, about a week old. This is my second flock yay! I went to the feed store and they didn't have chick starter, but they said the 18% protein layer feed would work just fine. I am not medicating my chicks, didn't medicate on my first flock and...

    Skittish Pullets help!

I'm in the same boat 2fathens. Should have sucked it up and gotten another round of chicks after we lost two from our original flock. Instead we have three new pullets that are as skittish as they are full of hatred for me! I found that fresh raspberries perked them up a bit and warmed them up...

    Mysterious feather picker

I've got 6 silver laced wyandottes and since 6 weeks I've had an unknown feather picker. I've spotted blood on the roosts three times. Now they are at 10 weeks and there is still feather picking going on. The chickens are allowed to free range all day, at night I put them in the run with their...

Raising a visually impaired (possibly blind) chick [Pic Heavy]

They appear normal, but when I put my finger close to her eye to see if she backs away she doesn't.

Raising a visually impaired (possibly blind) chick [Pic Heavy]

Thank you! We have named ours Helen. We haven't separated her yet because when we do try to she peeps SO LOUDLY until we put her back with the others. The other will give her a peck or two, but then all is well. Fingers crossed she pulls through!

Blind Chick, any suggestions? (other than culling)

I just got my first shipment of hatched chicks from a farm store and am dealing with the same issue. I did a mixture of the medicated feed and warm water, let the feed dissolve a bit, and then used an eye dropper. The eye dropper is definitely too big to fit inside her mouth, so I put a little...

Raising a visually impaired (possibly blind) chick [Pic Heavy]

I am so relieved I found this post! I got my first batch of chicks today and realized very quickly one of the chicks was blind. I am going to use all of your pointers and hope for the best!
