I do have different sized hens but no bantams. Even so, all of my chicks usually grow at the same rate and I finally notice a difference around the fourth month. I've also had chicks with delayed-feathering but no issues with size. He is just so small for five weeks.

Some hens like private spaces, others don't, it depends on the hen. Why did you remove the chicks? As a rule chicks should always stay with the hen unless there is a health issue. Most hens will decide to leave the eggs that don't hatch eventually.
