Winnie was on antibiotics for 17 days as suggested by the online vet we found. Her abdomen is actually bigger now so she's waddling around more than in the past. We've decided we're not going to give her any more epsom soaks, as the trauma of catching her is too much.
Dr. Smith really leans...
Thanks Sydney. I think she's had this issue for a while. Last year she only laid for two weeks in spring, and this year it was one. Her eggs have always been rock hard though, but the lash material confirmed what it was. Just hoping she makes it, and that I won't have to try and drain that...
Thanks. She appears to be getting worse since I started giving her meloxicam, and now we've added an antibiotic. Her tail is down and she arches her back to eat. Just hoping she improves but salpingitis can be tough apparently. I thought she might be egg bound, but I couldn't feel anything...
We actually found a vet that does online consultations, and she is highly knowledgable. She can only write prescriptions
if you live in California, which we do, but gets great reviews for all her consultations. We showed her photos of Winnie's issues and she is prescribing medications we hope...
I am having the same issue, but with a Guinea Hen. I purchased the Amoxicillin powder form Jedds, but the dosage is for adding to the drinking water. Does anyone know if it can be mixed for single dose that I could put on bread or other food? Thank you.
No, she doesn't and she's very suspicious when I've tried to sneak calcium in her food. I assume that giving her extra calcium would not be a good idea if her oviduct is inflamed, but not sure. My other issue is whatever I put in her food or water is also shared with Phinnie. I was thinking of...
Thanks. Well, considering she's got the swollen belly, it's probably the cause of her problems. I've ordered some Amoxicillin powder but I don't know how I'll get it in her yet. Definitely looks like lash material to me.
Thanks Sydney, that's very kind of you. She's doing okay, eating everything in front of her and acting normal. We gave her another 20 minute epsom soak yesterday, and the belly issue seems about the same. Very firm, but not noticably bigger. I'm just trying various things like oregano...
Thank you, I'll try that. She never laid on a regular basis, and her eggs have always been thick shelled. But I guess if she's laying internally that doesn't matter, although it's still impossible to know what's going on for sure. How would the extra calcium help, and is there any down side...
Sorry I missed this yesterday. She is acting fine, eating well after having her second epsom salt bath on Wednesday. She had no interest in the oyster shells and crushed calcium citrate. I'll keep trying because it sure seems likely that that water belly is from a reproductive issue, but...
Thank you. That's a good idea. I've never actually given them oyster shells because they eat so many greens from the yard, like sow thistle, Dandelion and others.
We have a Guinea hen that appears to have the same thing, but I think it may be due to a reproductive issue. We gave her an epsom salt soak last Friday for 20 minutes, and it made a big difference the next day. I am going to try again tomorrow. We caught her with a large butterfly net, and...
