It really depends on how deep it's going to be as you're going to be looking at cubic yards. Lowes has .33 cubic yard bags for $25 each *note: they are 1000lbs each so you'll need something big to carry them.
My run is 64 sq ft and 2 bags or .66 cubic yards (2000lbs) worked perfect. But mine...
I'll find out more, but I was just told by a friend of mine that he decided that having 100 chickens was too much for him to manage and that he wants to get down to 12. He's a neighbor of mine here in the White Mountains of AZ, so I'm not sure if that is close enough for anyone or not.
Let me...
Thanks everyone. I came up here from Phoenix, where I spent most of my life. It averages 25-30 degrees cooler here and during the summer it is a welcomed change. We actually get seasons here and wouldn't you know it - snow! I've actually had my truck buried in my driveway from snowfall.
As to...
I understand your pov. I too have had aggressive dogs most of my life. German Shepards, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Akitas, Queensland Heelers and even the more mellow Boxer. But the simple fact is that this dog has attacked a human, at 12 the child is big enough not to be considered the same as a...
Lol, dogs are such opportunists. My Akita once grabbed an entire frozen roast (it was a big one too) off the counter that was defrosting when we made a quick run to the corner store. Had it all gone before we got home and we weren't gone for 1/2 hour plus it was still very frozen.
There isn't...
I just love dogs. Here's mine:
The first dog my wife and I had together. He was attacked in my front yard by a mountain lion at the age of 13 and lived an extra year. Passed at 14.

You might need a grounding rod, depending on how strong the power supply is. I recently discovered that Lowe's has them. I couldn't find them at Home Depot or any of the feed stores. But then again, I've never put up an electric fence for a small poultry run either.
It sure does help when putting up lots of t-posts. I fenced both mine and my mothers properties and there's no way I could've done it near as good or fast without one. But again, it's a $35 item not a $100 one.
It is sad. And I can relate. What do you do with them? I don't know.
We had a real problem with strays. I live in the country and we have no dog laws, it's same attitude your facing with the overruns and such. Fortunately, most of the people around here have a heart and don't shoot them. We did...
Oh wow, I'm very sorry to hear about that. I hope your daughter makes a good strong recovery. I have 2 daughters myself, 8 & 10. And as others have stated, there's no room for an animal to be aggressive with them.
I think you should side with your husband and have the dog put down. It's not...
Honestly, Quack Shack is right. You will make more ground with your neighbor that way. As it is, you state it's been weeks since you've had a problem. It's best to let it go and be the neighbor you'd like him to be.
Your feelings are normal and your neighbor was a jerk about it all. But...
I put sand in my run too. Locally here, I went to Lowe's and got 1000lbs (.33 cubic yards) bag for $25. Had to use 2 bags and it empties pretty easily with a shovel. It sure looks nice and both the dogs and kids loved it, before the chickens took it over. Since my chickens are new in there new...
Thanks for the input. Lol, easier would've been getting a kit. I've spent over 2 months building this with plenty of mistakes and oopsies along the way. The kids love it though and they get to shine in these final parts. We painted it sky blue (based on my eldest daughters request), the next...
