    Duckling Rescue Mission: Slipped Tendon

Duckling update: We've begun using comfrey compresses and epsom salt soaks. The tendon has more flexibility, however, we can't get it to pop back into the groove on the back of her leg. We can just barely get it to the edge and tried taping it there, but no luck. She is getting restless in her...

Also, the sickest (and tiniest) chick fell last night and couldn't get up. Poor thing. I gave her more yogurt and instead of the drench, I quadrupled the concentration of her corid and fed her several drops. She seems a bit better this morning, but still droopy.

Yes, the corid is for my chicks, not the duck. Just had a spontaneous question in the middle of duck talk, since Kathy had good knowledge of coccidiosis and I have both a duck with a slipped tendon and chicks with coccidiosis at the same time. Good thing I got the stomach flu and was able to...

Kathy- Here's a picture of a poop from the sickest one: It is pea green in color and well formed. Not the typical dark with a spot of white like the others. Probably bile? She is eating now for sure though so I'm not sure why her poo would be all bile. She has had a pasty bottom today...

    Duckling Rescue Mission: Slipped Tendon

Re: Kathy I will probably do the necropsy myself, but since I have never done one, and since a chick is so small, it may be fruitless. I just haven't bucked up and done it yet...

    Duckling Rescue Mission: Slipped Tendon

Re:kittycat23 The splint has been a work in progress. Since her leg below the hock is twisted inward, I had to figure out a way to apply pressure to twist it back to center. I figured the only part of her leg where I can get this leverage is the foot because the leg is cylindrical. I cut a...

Thank you, I will keep the updates coming. I hope she heals and isn't too far along to recover.

    Duckling Rescue Mission: Slipped Tendon

Hi Kathy, my question is regarding a batch of 6 chicks I picked up on Saturday afternoon. I had to drive about 4 hours to get them from the breeder (1 Welsummer and 5 Buckeyes, mixed ages from 1-2 weeks old). They all seemed healthy and happy at the time of purchase in the brooder, although the...

Great resources ! These are much needed in my house, thank you ! I have a question regarding chick cocci since I see you have Amprol dosing info all worked out, if you don't mind.

My Beloved Roo Is Becoming A Problem...despite all attempts to turn him around.

It's been a while since I have posted an update about my roo, old Saul Skookum Spurs, so here goes for any interested. We haven't had any rooster stew yet ! We are still working on the behavior modification, but have come a long way ! It's been more like a roller coaster rather than steady...

I actually have Rimadyl here, but am extremely hesitant to use it. I discontinued it's use on my dog for an injury after discovering some information about the drug. Here is an article with some stories and statistics...

Injured Chicken, Maggots in Wound HELP!

Good work, and a great sign that she is eating ! Looking much cleaner and dry. Definitely keep her inside in a clean environment while she has an open wound. I wouldn't use neosporin personally, but it is up to you what you think is best. The reason I shy away from putting any kind of ointment...

    Duckling Rescue Mission: Slipped Tendon

Update on our little duckling: Well folks, the duckling has a lot more energy now. She "swims" in her sling. We actually had to build a better sling/chair for her since she was swimming in the air so vigorously. I guess that added nutrition is doing something. She swam and bathed in her...

    Duckling Rescue Mission: Slipped Tendon

Thanks Kathy. We are going to spend some time stretching and getting the swelling down. There was fluid in the joint, which is much less now with only a day's therapy. We'll just have to wait and see.
