    Crowing Chick

I went to take a video of them, which didn't get saved 😒, and he actually crowed. He's done it 3 more times while I was watching them. By the looks of their flight feathers, it looks like I have 2 boys and a girl, but they are mixed breed so I am not relying on that. I am, however, going to...

    Crowing Chick

One of my 4 day old chicks (Hellebore - far right) just "crowed" 4 times...? He stands up real straight, like a rooster, and makes a couple long cheeps. I am very confused. Has anyone else seen anything like this??

Bantam or Full Size Cochin chicks?

At almost 1 month, these blue babies really look like bannies. My buff cochin is almost twice their size and is about the same age.

    "Blue" Orp...not Blue?

The female I got with him looked very mauve to me, but I have never seen a mauve roo and I can't find any online :/

    "Blue" Orp...not Blue?

Thank you, gosh I love chicken genetics. I'm not super sure how the hen's genes work. She is a 3rd gen black mottled. With the orginal hen, no matter what she crossed with, 75-85% of the chicks came out black mottled as well, the same with her daughter, and now it seems the same with her...

    "Blue" Orp...not Blue?

I tried to look at his offspring for genetic explanation (I accidentally crossed him with a Black Mottled hen), because Blue x Black = Blue, Black and Splash x Black = Blue. The problem there was that the mottled gene seems to be dominant over just about everything, but his chicks did come out 1...

So you think Blue (with leakage) rather than Splash? It doesn't really matter when you get down to it, I just have files for each of my birds and I try to keep them as accurate as possible.

    "Blue" Orp...not Blue?

I try to avoid Google directly, and go straight to the links offered and read them, but I'm hoping it's right this time. That one, and mine, looks like a Splash that just took more Blue than the lighter greyish undertones a Splash usually has

    "Blue" Orp...not Blue?

I'm not sure how reliable it is, but this is how it shows up on Google (which itself is hardly reliable)

    "Blue" Orp...not Blue?

That one says it's a Splash, which would explain the lighter fluff and not so blackish blue

I found apicture of a Splash roo online that resembles my boy. *image from Google search*

    "Blue" Orp...not Blue?

I wondered, I knew that Blue x Blue makes Blue, Black, Splash, but as he grew he always just looked like a Blue so I never thought about it until now. Thank you. I love him either way, I just always try to be at least 95% on my breeds/colors/ages/etc.
