    Accidental hatchling

we didn’t get rid of our rooster soon enough and now we have a baby chick. I am wondering if there is any way to tell which of the hens is the mom. The Roo is a Colombian Wyandotte. The mother could be a SLW, a Buff Orp, or a barred rock. Chick looks SLW....I suppose I could ask if there is a...

When can I let the babies sleep with the big girls?

Ok, I let them sleep with the bigs tonight BUT because I'm scared (they are so little- I forgot to mention they are bantams and the rest of the flock are standard) I put them in a crate inside the coop so they can be seen/heard and be a part of things but I don't have to worry about them getting...

When can I let the babies sleep with the big girls?

I have 8 full grown hens and 2 babies about 8 weeks old. We have done introductions and they are all great together when they are out free ranging during the day in our yard (fully fenced and safe for the babies). We haven't had any pecking on the littles and nobody seems to pay any attention to...

"assorted bantam" bin proved too tempting. guesses on what breeds they are??

So I ventured into the feed store yesterday with 3 of my kids. The store had just gotten in a shipment of straight run "assorted bantam" chicks.. since they had just gotten them in, nobody really knew what breeds were in the bunch yet. But, because they were so cute, we walked out with 3 of...

    Silkie thread!

my silkies are about 12 weeks old now, and ive had a feeling from the beginning that Chewy (the partridge) was a roo, and now I'm fairly positive. But I thought that Hen Solo (the gray) was a female, and now I'm doubting that....do you think I have 2 roos here?? neither make any sound so the...

    Silkie thread!

i have 2 silkie chicks that hatched the same day but one is still teeny tiny, he/she is usually a spunky (kinda a bully) one while the bigger one is more chill however the last couple days, the little one has really seemed to stop growing and is quite a bit less active, should i be worried?

just showing off our new day old flock

well the waiting is killing me! I am not allowed to have roosters so I really hope I'm wrong because the ones I think probably are roos happen to be my favorite. I do have pics of the wings and if you were to wing sex them, they are looking like roos but we shall see... partridge silkie...

    best advice you have

poop boards??? do tell. im up for anything that makes the coop easier to clean. thank you all for your advice. there is so much to read about but just like having a child, you can often over research and end up not really knowing the real important stuff.
