I live in the city, and even though I haven't had rats in my coop yet, I'm worried they might somehow come in and hurt my chickens. They might kill my pullets, and could badly scratch my hens. Can someone give me ideas on how to keep rats out of my coop?
I'm thinking of putting chickens in a show soon, and I want them to look their best. Does anyone have any advice on what cleaning products I should use, what time before the show I should clean them, etc.? And, hopefully, are their any tricks you could share?
Hi Peggy! from Brooklyn! I know what you're thinking. What's a person with chickens doing in Brooklyn? Well, I can have hens, but I can't have roosters. Since you can't bring the girl to the farm (not yet), you gotta bring the farm to the girl!
Leghorn is a good breed, but some people say they aren't that close to their owners. I've also heard that Rhode Island Red are good as well, and will sometimes create a double yolk. Golden Comet is said to be a very gentle breed which gets along well in mixed flocks.
I've been thinking about entering one or two chickens in shows, but I don't know which breeds to choose. I may do this long-term, so someone who gives me answers could really help me. Could someone help me decide?
PS: I'm little (try to choose a breed that would be more fit to be taken care of...
