    Easter Egger Sneezing/Acting Strange

I can’t see any plaque buildup - her airway seems to be fine. Thanks so much for the information! I guess I’ll just keep an eye on her and see what happens.

    Easter Egger Sneezing/Acting Strange

Her crop did not feel full this morning before I fed her. Also, I’m aware that just turning a chicken upside down doesn’t treat a crop issue (I was “attempting” to clear her crop - attempting the key word there I am new to this). She is 7 months old and there has been no other sneezing in the flock.

    Easter Egger Sneezing/Acting Strange

I have an EE that has been very sluggish and puffed up for about 24 hours. Yesterday she spent most of the morning in the coop and had a rattling sound in her breathing. This morning she came out with the rest of the hens, but hasn't been running around, eating, or drinking. This morning she...

    Blue eggs!

One of my Easter Eggers gave us our first egg this week! So exciting! She has laid 4 since Tuesday!

When Will I See An Egg?

I also live in Knoxville and am in virtually the same situation as you (except with RIR, easter eggers, and one barred rock). I’m interested to see when yours lay.

    Comb development

Hello all, I’m curious about comb development and how that differs from hen to hen. I bought by birds at a 4-h poultry auction, and they are 21 weeks old. My RIR were “red ribbon birds”, and have virtually no comb development compared to some of the other birds there. I know that comb...

    Time in coop question

Yes, I’ve had them for about a week. I added one a few days after the rest. I was just curious about the normal timetable for birds figuring out the coop.

    Time in coop question

I don’t have a light in the coop. There’s a security light overhead, so it never gets completely dark back there. They seem comfortable enough at night, I was just curious about how long it typically takes for hens to start making their way in a new coop during the daytime to lay.

    Time in coop question

I have attached a picture below. They have 24sq ft. of coop space and 60sq. ft of outdoor run space. They have gone into the coop by themselves one time at night, but other times I have had to put them in. I currently have a few golf balls sitting in their boxes.

    Time in coop question

Hello all, I have had my flock for about a week now, and I’m curious about the time that they spend outdoors vs. in the coop. They are all around 20 weeks and should be laying soon, but I figure they will need to be familiar with their coop and nesting boxes before that will happen. Does is...

    Adding a bird

Thank you! That is comforting. My easter eggers seem to be getting friendly with her. The RIR are the ones that still chase her around every once in a while.

    Adding a bird

Well she (barred rock) escaped her quarantine, and now she has found the food and water. They are being peaceful at the moment. Occasionally one of my Rhode Island Reds will chase her around. I don’t even know what to think. I guess I’m going to let this play out and quarantine again if needed.

    Adding a bird

Thanks again. I appreciate the insight. My setup is not prefab, we built it from scratch. The coop is 6x4 24sq ft. Run is 6x10 60sq ft. I will try this out for a while and then take your advice!

    Adding a bird

Thank you very much for the great advice. Unfortunately I already got the new bird. It’s not been great. I currently have her fenced off in a corner of my run with food and water. They slept ok in the coop last night, but the other birds are being aggressive and not letting her near the feeder...

    Safe in the coop?

I ended up putting them all in there and monitoring to make sure nothing was going on. They all cuddled up on the roosts, but my new girl roosted by herself (in peace). Luckily I have a ton of roost space and they could spread out. I heeded your advice and opened up the coop door at first light...
