Hi All,
we live in a small country town in New South Wales , Australia.
We moved here from the city a year ago to give our boys are better quality of life.
They're 4yrs, 2yrs and 4mths ;-)
After attending an agricultural show my 4yr decided he wanted to get chickens and show them.
He chose BLACK...
How successful would I be putting a 3 day old lone chick I hatched in an incubator under a broody hen sitting on 4 eggs which I think will hatch in 5 days/

Well I just read this and had a look to see if it got out of the shell and it has.... AND IT ALSO HAS ONLY ONE EYE!!!
What upsets me is we purchased a trio of " OUTSTANDING SHOW STOCK" for my son to compete with and breed from - was suppose to give him a good base and it's all going...
I've just hatched my 2nd lot of eggs - the 1st was a disaster with 1 live chick as I ran the humidity too high at 55% and I had 11 perfectly formed chicks fail to turn and drown
This time I did a dry run and 1 hatched on day 21 all by itself, had to help 2 on day 22 and I had given up on the...
Just did the egg-topsy and boy we were close!
From 18 set 15 were viable...
2 hatched, 1 quit rather early big yolk, 2 a little later as they had smaller yolks the remaining 10 were perfectly formed with no yolk at all... had the humidity been lower for the first 18 days I'm sure we would have...

Hey Pete,
we started with 18 candled after a week and 3 were infertile giving us 15.
They went to 22 days and thought all dead so cracked one which ended up being Hardy and other fully hatchd before he was out - they're doing great...
It went day 23 and we got 5 pips that were...

Thanks - I broke the news to my son with tears streaming down my face
The brave little man just hugged me and said " it's okay Mum, you tried... we still have 2 and they're AWESOME!
He's taken it better than me!!! He's already bought in today's eggs and put them in the " H for...
Hi.
elation has turned into despair as after Hardy survived, 1 chick easily hatched all the others which were pipped failed to zip
They were chirping away and tapping at the shells when I went to bed but awoke to it being dead quiet
Has a quick peek and the 2 hatchies woke and started...
I feel for you as I'm going through the VERY SAME thing!!!
Have a Janoel JN8_48... temp been rock solid and my humidity at lockdown 70% and had one peep die like that over night?
Perfectly formed with the membrane away from shell and stuck to chick which was really cramped ( big chick )...

Sorry, don't understand. READ what, plz?
i think what he means is when you place them in the water a live one will start thrashing about almost immediately because of the heat transference through the shell.... does that help?
Sorry you went through that, but don't beat yaself up...

OK conflicting advice there
BUT have just put in some wet paper towels - noticed another pip
Was told those yet to pip could be affected by higher humidity... better to think of those than an early hatcher?
WOW - this stuff is NOT for the faint hearted
Steep learning curve for...

the humidity only dipped from 70% to 66% and quickly went back up??
as I'm hatching horizonally it's recommended to have it around 65% so the unpipped ones don't drown
