We have 2 hens which have been getting very swollen in the abdomen 1 was very bow legged and both not able to walk and very lethargic. Read about draining their abdomens so we tried it and got 350cc from one and 375cc from the other. 375cc is around 1.58 cups of fluid. Needless to say they are...
we read about trying to drain their abdomens yesterday and if you get fluid out it's ascitis if nothing, it may be laying internally or another problem, We drained our 2 hens tonight and got 350cc from one and 375cc from the other. seem to be feeling alot better and still draining from the...
Wow, that sounds pretty wierd, we just drained the abdomens of our 2 hens and got 350cc from one and 375cc from the smaller one. Feeling so much better! Keep checking with people and hope you get some answers.
was your hen swollen and acting lethargic(hope that's spelled right)and not walking around like it usually did? We have 2 that we're sure have Ascitis which is fluid in the abdomen and vets say it is straw yellow in color. I don't know if it stays liquidy or turns thick like fat.
What we think we have is ascites(spelling may not be right) a secondary problem to a heart/oxygen problem. You might also check into worms, seems like i read into something about the watery green droppings and having worms. Our chickens abdomens are pretty soft but extremely swollen and nothing...
ok, different problem than I'm having. We have a problem with foxes but they never get to our chickens at night because our coop has a solid bottom in it and is closed up at night, and we have dogs which help keep foxes from coming too close. There are products that are saposed to repel foxes...

We have an orpington approx. 4 years old. She is so swollen in the back end that she is walking bowl legged. The swelling feels larger than a softball. Possibly empacted? what do I do? saw her poop today but was very small.
We have 3 Australorps 2 - 2 1/2 years old, 1 has had no feathers underneath for 6 - 8 months, 1 has I believe went through a molting, lost a lot of feathers but did come back in and 1 of them will only lay a partial egg, very soft and broken. Very confused as what's going on with them.
We have a couple Australorps that I think went through the molting stage, neither have been laying for most of the summer and we noticed their combs are now very short and pink instead of red like they use to be. Every once in a while 1 will lay a soft shelled egg which comes out broken or is...
