Hey everyone 👋
I have 2 black star hens, both 3.5 years old. One is molting but healthy, a heavy girl who likes to check in on me every day. She's the boss hen.
The other one hasn't laid in a while, has lost a lot of weight and is very pale. She is eating some but not much and moves slowly...
I hatched some eggs and two are crested cream legbar. One is obviously female but the other has me stumped. No white spot, but a chipmunk stripe and lighter down. Is this going to be a roo? 3 pics of the suspect and one of the certain female. These two eggs came from different pens.
My flock has been through pox, the dry type. They broke out about a year ago and have healed. My dominicker has a spot on her head that has developed over the last 8 months or so. At first it was small and looked like some residual spots, maybe scarring. I left it alone because I thought it was...
@Kiki I used Corrid in the water for 5 days for all birds, 1.25 TBS powder per gallon.
I have not dewormed yet.
I feed Nutrena layer pellets 16% and starter crumble 18% and oyster shell free feed, as some girls are just at 18 weeks now. She really hasn't eaten too much in a few days.
I've...
My girl is about 26 weeks old, a speckled Sussex. She has a pale comb, runny yellow poo and is lethargic. She's been this way for a few days. I've been forcing her to drink electrolyte water mixed with cayenne after scouring the internet and this forum. Pic of her and the poo, sorry in advance...
Sorry, just seeing this!
Yes, I did. I actually change it out regularly because, well, it's free and these ladies poop A LOT!!! They free range for a few hours once or twice a day under supervision, but they definitely don't mind going back in the run especially if they think food is coming.
I thought I'd follow up since my girls have arrived. I ordered from Cackle Hatchery and got one extra of the 3 kinds, so I have 9 instead of 6 because they all are thriving. I've attached some pictures of the coop/run and the girls. One of the black sex link girls and two of the dominiques love...
This is extra helpful - if you haven't experienced the Hades-like GA summer, you can't really understand how ridiculous the heat/humidity combination is. I *just* asked my husband if he minded if I built the coop in the back of the yard (in full afternoon sun) but now will go with my original...
Hey everyone! I'm new here and have been doing a lot of reading. I just read this article https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/how-much-room-do-chickens-need.66180/ and learned a LOT. I have chicks coming in a month and I'm trying to get everything set before they get here. I live about 30...
