    Ocellated Turkeys

Hello, I would love to raise ocellated turkey but I will need eggs preferably. I live in Lagos Nigeria. I believe my environment is tropical enough to sustain these birds. Any help from anyone as to where I can get or buy fertile eggs?

    Swollen white guinea fowl neck!!!!!

Hello. Sorry for the long silence. Things were pretty crazy on the farm then. The guineas and turkeys died of fowl cholera caused by rats(can't remember the second diagnosis now although I have the lab report). I lost 40 adult turkeys and my entire guinea fowl flock within a week. It was a hard...

    Swollen white guinea fowl neck!!!!!

Also my turkeys and guinea fowl have gone off feed since Monday. Some of the turkeys are huddled up with wings dragging down. None of them have an appetite although they are running around as much as they can.

    Swollen white guinea fowl neck!!!!!

Sad to say, the Guinea fowl died this morning on the way to the Veterinary Doctor. It is still there as they are running tests on it at the veterinary lab. I don't know yet if it is Bird flu but it sure did have tapeworm although it was dewormed earlier this month with Ivermectin. 3 of my...

    Swollen white guinea fowl neck!!!!!

There is no discharge or coughing or sneezing. When I got the guinea fowl, it wasn't this way and that is why I am so concerned.

    Swollen white guinea fowl neck!!!!!

I read somewhere that avian influenza can cause cyanosis in birds. Can this be avian influenza? There was an outbreak in a state in Nigeria some time this year. This guinea fowl has been on my farm for almost two months. I quarantined it and it's now roaming with the others. I just want to have...

    Swollen white guinea fowl neck!!!!!

I don't think it's gapeworm. The bird is not gasping but the head region looks swollen and I don't understand the dark pouch protruding out of it's neck. I will place before and after pictures for you to see. It seems to be a bit huddled up but eating and drinking well otherwise

    Swollen white guinea fowl neck!!!!!

Dear Fam, I went to the farm this morning and saw my guinea fowl this way. I have never seen anything like it before. Are there any ideas? Is it a disease? What can I do to help?

    Raising guinea hens and complications.

Sorry for my late response. When I introduce adult guineas to my flock, I trim their feathers. That way, they can't fly. It still takes a while to integrate them with the flock and they don't like to go in at night but at least they are safe. The only predator I have on my land are snakes but...

So sorry about this. Kindly separate the guineas from your chickens. As to brooding, guineas happen to be one of the most useless birds when it comes to brooding. I usually just pick the eggs and set in my incubator. I don't bother about them brooding because they won't. They might have an...

Candling turkey and duck eggs in a homemade kerosene lantern incubator

Okay. I don't want cows though. They take up so much space. Besides, there is an untapped market for small ruminant dairy products here. The genetic materials to start the project are also fantastic. The local breeds of sheep and goat have good potential for dairy which is underutilised. Of...
