A few years ago I had a Rhode Island Red hen (Lucy) and a Dominic Hen(Ethel). One day Lucy started crowing for know reason that I could find. My mom always told me that her mother would not allow a crowing hen in her yard, that one was dinner. I was not about to fry Lucy, she was a pet. Anyway...
Heather you and Sarah Ladd might also a goose to the flock. It is my understanding that the gander is more protective. I have 5 and they alert to everything.
I will not presume to be an expert because I just started this journey with ducks and geese. But it seems like a different male might be a good idea and this little bugger might make a good dinner if he isn't a pet of course. Mine are all pets so there you go.
It could just be from eating grass. My nephew freaked out and thought his ducks were pooping blood. I reminded him that they had been eating watermelon, I don't know if I would worry yet. Before you take Booby to the vet check the vet out with other duck owners, many around me don't have a clue.
