Ours don’t free range as we aren’t allowed in our area so no predators but he could have gotten it stuck in the hardware cloth for sure. He ate the wet mush like crazy again but I also saw him trying to preen it on stone without acting like it hurt tonight so I’m thinking it’s not hurting too...
This is my main man, Pepper 🥰 I noticed what looked to be the equivalent of road rash on his top beak a couple days ago to the point where the tip is shorter than the bottom beak. I also noticed he wasn't able to eat meal worms out of my hand. He is acting totally fine other than that but I did...
How is your boy doing now? I noticed one of our roos seems to have somehow injured his beak-it looks like he shaved the top layer of his top beak off from the top to the tip so the top beak is shorter than bottom. I don't have a pic but plan to get one and post about it tonight. Yours was the...
Don’t be! That’s the entire reason I asked because the comb/wattles on the one look exactly like my 3 other roos, though back around 7 weeks. Seems so odd to have two pullets with such different coloring on their comb but I guess the other is just developing a little later 🤷🏼♀️
Almost 12 weeks now and I was thoroughly convinced they were both pullets until the last few days. Both have copper chest feathers and truly they look identical except that one now has a much more red and pronounced comb and has wattles showing up. Not close enough to laying time for that change...
Wanted to post an update here :) Both Barnevelders are definitely Roos. The silver cuckoo maran was as well and the golden a pullet (and they love each other so much btw). Looks like I will have a couple Barnevelder Roos to rehome 😭 Thanks everyone!
My thoughts exactly. We have 11 altogether (plus 3 guineas) but 3 Roos out of 11 is 2 too many 😔 And all 11 were sold as day old pullets, though we understood the risk and likelihood of getting 1 roo. Still stinks. Fingers crossed we’re wrong about the Barnevelders 😂 Will update!
Figured I should add to this post rather than make another. These two cuckoo marans (one golden, though they were both supposed to be golden) are from the same hatchery as the Barnevelders and the same age (just over 4 weeks now). The difference in combs is crazy and the one on the lefts comb...
Thank you! Exactly what I wanted to hear 🤣 Our cuckoo maran the same age has the same red under its yellow comb so I was worried 3 were Roos. Not enough hens to make more than one roo work!
I know how much everyone loves these posts 🤣 And I know it’s early so just scroll on past if you think it’s too early, but I’m getting fairly concerned that both of our Barnevelder pullets are not pullets. Both of their combs are red at the base (but hoping that is a breed thing and not relevant...
