    New from Spencerville Indiana

Hello Ruthie, I live in Allen County as well (on Bishop Rd.). I never did get my meat birds last year, but I have some ordered for this year. I just finished a new 8' x 10' tractor today and I am really anxious for the Jumbo Cornish X Rocks to get here. I have been a meat cutter since 1980 so I...

    Sunshine and Cornish X

Quote: They don't need the sun, no. However sometimes they do benefit from it, especially on cold days and in the mornings. Make sure you have good ventilation for that tarp. Thanks Jeff, I really value your opinion. I have plenty of metal roofing in an old Fox House back in my woods so I...

    Sunshine and Cornish X

I'm not really worried about too much sun because they will have a shade tarp and good ventilation, but my question is "Do they have to have some direct sunlight or am I ok putting the tractor in areas that are shady all the time?"

    Sunshine and Cornish X

Hello, I will be raising 25 Cornish X in a 8x10 tractor for the first time. I plan on putting a sun shade on it and moving it twice a day. I have 4 1/2 acres of lawn to work with on this, but I was wondering am I better off keeping it in a shaded area or do they need the direct sunshine at...

How Long to Wait Before Freezer Camp?

I'm new here so I cant give advice on birds, but I will say that any Home Depot, Menards, Lowes, etc.. has a good selection of freezers just make sure when you buy one it is Energy Star rated. This will save you a lot of money in the long run on electricity. I had an old Sears chest freezer for...

How many should I start with? and what breed?

Everybody on here is great, I have really been learning a lot. I found the plans on here for Karl O'Melays 8x10 tractor and I think thats the route I'm going to go on housing the birds. I will start searching for people to buy feed with. If anybody is in NE Indiana let me know.

How many should I start with? and what breed?

Quote: Thanks. I thought it would have to be much bigger than that. When you buy bulk feed how does it come? is it still in bags and you are just getting a quantity discount?

How many should I start with? and what breed?

Quote: Thanks. I didnt think of raising a second batch. How often can you get chicks at local feed stores and such, is it pretty much any time you want them? I am building a whizbang plucker and a scalding tank to help with this and I was a Butcher for 23 years so cleaning and processing them...
