New rooster - how to join flock?

Yes, I’m sorry, I can see it’s confusing. I’ll start the first line again. Just over a week ago I added an 18 week old rooster to my 18 week old hens. The rest is as stated. Hope I cleared the muddy water😉

New rooster - how to join flock?

Thanks for your reply. I misspoke, all of them are 18 weeks now and we have received a couple eggs. I guess we will continue with what we are doing. I hope he will soon leave the run with flock. We shall see . . . I appreciate you encouragement! Thank you

New rooster - how to join flock?

Hello - Just over a week ago I got a 3 month old roo to join my 3 month old hens, 8 of them. We have had them separated by fencing in the coop so they are able to see each other and eat side by side. Yes, there have been scuffles at the fence/feed area as expected. The hens free range during...

Automatic Water cups vs Horizontal nippples

For my 20 week old hens, I have the horizontal nipples on the sides of a five gallon bucket. They know how to use it but I’m not sure they get enough. When I go in and change the water and tap the plungers they go crazy for water. I was thinking about getting the cups, but living in Michigan...

    Chicken lights

There are two small windows on each side of the house. That’s all that is available. Hopefully they figure it out, they are smart birds. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!

    Chicken lights

Thanks for the response. They have been out in the coop for 10 days, to run back and forth, coop to run. Hopefully they’ll start doing it themselves! We’ll watch and see.

    Chicken lights

Hello - Our Buff Orpingtons are 6 weeks old and have moved from the brooding box to the hen house and run. Yay, they are growing up so fast! :jumpy My question is getting them from the run into the hen house at night. Someone mentioned to me that they need a light inside to come in because it’s...

She seems somewhat better this mornin. Still not putting full weight on her leg (left). Keeping an on on her and will get vitamins going. Thanks for your insight!

3 week old chick won’t walk

I have a package of electrolytes and vitamin supplements to mix in water. Is this what you’re referring to?

3 week old chick won’t walk

All my chicks have not had any issues. Then tonight, one girl only sits, kinda walks to the feeder without lifting her body. Stays by herself. Lies upright, and lets her left wing fall outward. What do you think? What should I check?

Great article! This has been a lot of my fears as I also have an American Staffy who seriously defends her yard from squirrels. Which gives me concerns about my new chickens. I will definitely keep your suggestions in mind with training her. Thanks for the article!
