Integrating to flock when on different foods

Hi folks. I have two laying hens, both 3 years old or so, and recently got two young Jersey Giants to join them. They are maybe 4.5 months old and are doing well. One could be a bit younger, it still makes a cheeping sound. I have them separated from my older ladies and on grower food. I'd like...

Chicken isn't walking, laying down all the time

Thank you! I was reading about calcium citrate last night and plan to give that a try. I have been putting water and food right in front of her as much as I can (but when at work I can't) and she is definately drinking when I do. Last egg was probably a couple weeks ago now.

Chicken isn't walking, laying down all the time

Hi! I have a 3 year old Barred Rock hen who is going downhill. I'd noticed her laying out in the run more the weekend before last weekend, and her tail being down, but over the week she has basically stopped walking at all now. I thought she was done for on the weekend, but she lives on! I've...

    Sudden pale yolks

Thanks for your time on this! She is a voracious treat eater, eats anything, and yes she is acting normally. I do think I'll test for worms to see if that is something I should do. My other hen is older and not laying much, but yes her yolks have been normal. These are just my personal layers...

    Hello chicken folks!

Thanks for the info. The two I lost didn't have any symptoms that I noticed, they were fine and then they had died. One right in front of me even! They died a couple months apart. My other two seem good..but need a deworming at the moment.

    Sudden pale yolks

Hi! My Ameraucana has always had a paler yellow yolk, but she just finished a mini molt and started laying again, and her yoke is paaale. Looks more like vanilla custard than egg yolk. Should I be concerned? She eats corn based laying crumbs, she get regular nutritious treats including greens (I...

    Hello chicken folks!

Happy to join, I don't know anyone else with chickens! I have a little coop and run (a fortress, we live in the woods, many predators) my husband and I built in 2018. 4 hens is our max. I currently have a 6 year old lavender orpington and a 3 year old ameraucana as I lost two ladies over the...
