Sadly he didn’t make it. He couldn’t walk and started to have trouble breathing. He has been frozen so I’ll see if I can get him to Guelph for a necropsy though I’m not sure they’ll take him.
No - not thin. Getting locked out is my fault - timer needed to change since days are getting a bit longer. He also may have been chasing the bantam since they were both locked out. He just ate a bit of a mash of blueberries and cooked egg. So I know he’s hungry but oddly he’d only take it from...
My standard Cochin cockerel got locked out of the coop 3 nights ago when the temp was about -8 Celsius along with one of my bantams. He was in a sheltered spot but hasn’t been the same since. I brought him inside last night when it was obvious he wasn’t going to get on his perch. He is not...
So she pushed herself out of the sling and is now so weak. Her legs are the only thing that she has any strength in. She sort of pushes herself around the crate. But she can't stand on them. She eats and drinks but she seems to fall asleep while eating. She is not improving. What is the most...
Thank you!! This is a great idea and I have her in a crate so should work very well.
She was vaccinated but of course Mareks was the first thing I saw when I started researching. She is my first chicken. I got her, another pullet 16 weeks and 5 chicks at the end of April all from the same...
On Saturday my 16 week pullet Daisy, started hobbling around. She seemed well enough except she couldn't walk and the her right side seemed weak. Vet was out on Wednesday and said no broken bones, didn't look sick so maybe soft tissue damage.
I've kept her isolated so she doesn't get run over...
You think so? I sure hope so - since 'she' is only 6 weeks I'm guessing & hoping she is too. I have some other pics to go up if you want to guess some more of the others. In the original post for the pics I took at 3 weeks - I was sure she was a he and that I had two other roos as well. Now I...
Anyone want to guess at what breeds and genders these crazy chicks are? Here's a few hints...
- no two are the same breed
- there is definitely 1 hen
- they are about 3 weeks old here
Thanks everyone- we are defiantly trying to get them all as chicks so they are raised together. But as mentioned finding the breeds we like is proving a challenge here in Ontario, let alone from one place.
Hi all,
Many friends and family have chickens and we've decided to jump in! We'd like to get up to five chicks, all different breeds if possible. Does that make a difference to the flock and how they get along?
We used BackYard Chickens to do our homework and have come up with a list of our...
