Thanks for your responses! They are fed layer feed already, and they also have access to oyster shells. I will try putting an egg in the nesting box as "inspiration" and see if anything changes. Thank you!

Our chickens use just regular old dirt in our yard (it's pretty unexciting, but they love it!) We like to mix in a little bit of diatomaceous earth every once in a while. Not too much, though, because it can be irritating to their lungs.
