    Thanks for your responses! They are fed layer feed already, and they also have access to oyster shells. I will try putting an egg in the nesting box as "inspiration" and see if anything changes. Thank you!

    Dust baths

    Our chickens use just regular old dirt in our yard (it's pretty unexciting, but they love it!) We like to mix in a little bit of diatomaceous earth every once in a while. Not too much, though, because it can be irritating to their lungs.

    sleeping in nesting boxes!?

    I have had this problem too, recently. We got 2 new pullets and our original pullet, Batman, has been kind of bullying the newbies so they can't sleep on the roosts but rather they hide out in the nesting boxes. They're just starting to lay, so I've opened up access recently to the nesting boxes...
