Hen wants to be babies mom

I considered that, but it was only my second time having babies. I was too nervous to let her have access to them. She spent about 30 supervised minutes with them. When I exited the run she went with me. Now she is free ranging with the rest of the flock for the first time in weeks, but...

Hen wants to be babies mom

We have chicks that are almost 7 weeks old. They have been in the coop for 6 weeks in the brooder that is separated from the older hens. One hen was broody when they arrived, and she now seems to think they are her babies. For several weeks she has been pacing in front of their brooder. On...

    In Coop Brooder

They are being vaccinated, so approximately how long does that take to set in? My current flock of 7 are also vaccinated.

    In Coop Brooder

We have chicks arriving in a few weeks, and I am using this week yo build a brooder setup in the coop. I have a great design setup that will be able to stay clean and ensure they are separated from my current flock. My question is if there is any reason I should avoid having them in the coop...

    Rooster injuring hen

They just turned one yesterday. The injuries started about 6 weeks ago when they were in the coop/run. I was hoping free ranging would help, but he has immediately gone back to her. I am going to separate him and see if that helps, but I am afraid rehoming him may be the only option.

    Rooster injuring hen

I have a rooster who keeps injuring one of my hens. He overmates her and has caused significant injuries. She was recently in quarantine for 3 weeks due to needing stitches. Now that she has been reintroduced and the hens have accepted her, I found a large wound to her neck from him biting...

    Scaly Leg Mites?

Thank you so much! Fortunately, I picked up Vetericyn a few weeks ago. I’m so glad I did because I had it on hand for a nasty injury to one of my girls. I’m glad it will work for him, too. I appreciate appreciate the advice!

    Scaly Leg Mites?

This is Allen — or at least Allen’s feet. He has always had rougher feet than the hens, but I wanted to make sure he doesn’t need to be treated. All the ladies have perfectly healthy scales, so I’m not sure if it is leg mites or not. I’m an overly worried chicken mom most of the time, and I...

Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

Honestly, I was willing to pay whatever it took to save her. I still have no idea what she got caught on. The vet said she had never heard of a rooster mating and causing so much damage. She thought a hawk tried to grab her, but there is no way one could have gotten into the run/coop.

Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

The funny part is that she cost $45 and was a last minute add on to my chick order. Too expensive to be a mutt, so I am going to agree on the designer chicken label! She is now a $100 chicken after her trip to vet to get stitched up.
