I planned to get a variety of 6 hens.
I got: 1 BO
1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
1 Ameraucauna
1 Barred Rock
4 Rhode Island Reds
1 Delaware
I lost the Barred Rock and a RIR a few weeks ago, but I have already ordered 4 more hens, which should be...
There is actually very little blood, but I will get the blu kote when the store opens tomorrow. I think I have figured out which bird it is, the Ameraucana, because when I checked on them this evening she was almost trying to herd the Delaware and scoot in front of her. Since it hasn't...
I think my girls are setting up their pecking order, they are about 9-10 weeks old, and my daughter just ran in to tell me that several had bloody beaks. It is as if the tops of their beaks were scratched or pecked. There isn't a lot of blood, but I was wondering if there is anything I should...
There is an interesting video on youtube of a farmer massaging the chicken's crop, while hanging it upside down. The chicken basically spits up everything and clears the crop. I would try everything before I resorted to surgery, although there are times that a scalpel is the only option...
My Buff Orp. chick had a prolapse because of constipation, but same basic problem. We just cleaned the area and put honey on it for two days before I put everything back where it belonged. She was too swollen and irritated to reinsert the tissue immediately. We had to wait for the swelling to...
They do have ample food and water inside. So should I leave them locked in for the next 3-4 days to resolve this or does it need to be a day or two longer because they have already adapted to the coop?
We moved our chicks (5-9 weeks old) outside into their new Henhouse/run about a week ago. They are doing well and will go in and out of the henhouse during the day, but in the evening, when I go out to close them into the henhouse, I find them gathered together in a corner of the run. My...
Anyone know anything about Reedy Fork Farm Organic Feed or have any experiences you can share? I am thinking of going organic and researching different brands, but would love recommendations.
Thank you,
Heather
I am in NC as well and we just finished our coop today and put our chicks outside. We have 7 that range in age from 9 weeks to 4 weeks and put two heat lamps inside the henhouse, just in case. It seems that the two lamps in the 4x8 space raise the temp by about 10 degrees.
Good luck
