I'm on day 10 with the incubator at a constant 99.5 degrees, but it doesn't have a fan. I just read (above) that the temps should be higher if you don't have a fan. Hopefully things will turn out okay anyway! :-)
We have chicken eggs in the incubator right now, but they will hatch on Dec. 7th, so we will keep it warm, and put new ones in on Dec. 11th. Excited to be part of the fun!
I agree with the other comment from the folks in Colorado. We have a sharp decline in production, but 80% of our hens are molting, and the nights are already getting below freezing. Seems like I need to wait until Spring to see who is still a good producer and who isn't...despite the use of a...
Good advice both! I'll see if my local ranch supply carries Flock Block, but also I like the idea of separating her and seeing. She's a very nervous hen, so separating her would probably cause he not to lay an egg, but maybe after some time she would. Thank you!!
I find a "jelly egg" in the coop every day. I don't know who it is for sure, but there is a young barred rock who should be laying every day at her age (almost a year). I wonder if it's her? If not, then why isn't she laying? I'm thinking I need to cull her, but wondering if anyone has...
I have a Rhode Island Red who lays a jelly egg every day. She never used to do this, and I feed oyster shells, plus the washed and dried shells of their eggs, so it seems like calcium shouldn't be an issue. The feed I use hasn't changed either....could it be something that happens to the hen...
We recently added 2 Barred Rock hens to our 5 Rhode Island Reds. The BR's aren't laying yet and it's been a week. Do I just need to be patient?
Thanks!
