Anyone tried Purina’s new high protein feed?

    I have a typo... I have 25 laying hens not 21

Anyone tried Purina’s new high protein feed?

Not worth it imo. When I add animal protein, I add it. When they need calcium they get as much as they need/want. I'm not trusting anyone to tell my girls what they already know. I can throw down layer pellet next to scratch, next to seeds. They know what they need and eat what they want. I have...

    Feed or Heat?

It's been a pretty hot and humid summer here in FL. Typical. But I have a lot of new layers (this is their first summer) and they have slowed laying to a crawl. I also changed their feed 2 months ago from that box store brand PP to Dumor... So is my problem the feed or the heat? No, they are...

    Rooster comb turning purple/blue??? HELP

My Roo is otherwise healthy and happy. His crow is strong and he is eating and drinking well. We are having record high temps here in FL but they get fresh water daily ( sometimes twice a day ). I'm also included electrolytes per label. His comb is getting darker from the rear forward... Is this...

I think I want to cover my entire yard with poultry netting!

I have read this multiple times in other posts. I think some have even tied silver ribbon to the string? It's worth investigating further since I've seen this posted so many times before. Also, I know a covered hoop coop sheds rain, snow, leaves, and other stuffs easily. And I have seen many use...

    First egg at 21 weeks

I have a BLH Roo named Tiberius and he has a harem of 8... Today I found my first perfect little egg (and by little I mean miniature). Very exciting! I know the eggs will get bigger with time but what a great surprise!! Also, I'm not the only one that thinks their Roo is handsome right?

Enemies in the gate: An awful puppy

If you're not keen on hot wire you can do something less aggressive but more time consuming and fabricate coyotes roller bars. These should be secured no less than 8 inches away from the top of the fence and likely no more than 12. If that's not something you are willing to do you can add...

    Weird rooster crow

So it's normal that my young brown leghorn... I guess cockerel is the term (16 weeks old)?, Sounds like one of those rubber yellow chicken toys?

    Fowl pox or Pecking injuries?

Update... Tiberius looks fantastic. The girls are all healthy and happy. They love flying up to there new roosting area. Still working on addition but the scratch in the water bottle idea is a huge hit! They love scooting them around to see if a grain falls out! And it's funny to watch!!

    Fowl pox or Pecking injuries?

Yes indeed. He will be near by until healed up. I also read an article about adding "space" by going up. Following that logic I'm going to add some more (higher) roosting areas until I can complete the addition. I'm also going to try the "scratch in the water bottle" trick I read about. Get 6...

    Fowl pox or Pecking injuries?

Pulled him out like you suggested and then yesterday he looked a lot better. Upon closer examination it appears they were scabs that have started to fall off on there own. That big one on his right side and the lower one on the left came off to expose nice new skin. The tips of his comb are...

    Fowl pox or Pecking injuries?

80sqft. Run? Coop is smaller at like 32sqft? The "run" is a wire covered loop design

    Fowl pox or Pecking injuries?

I have 8 hens and Tiberius. They are all leghorns and about 11 weeks old. They have a large area to roost. Laying boxes are already there and a larger area to roam. They do like to roost right near each other. Almost in a row. I do have a way to separate him from the girls if you think I should...

    Fowl pox or Pecking injuries?

I thought Tiberius here (11week old leghorn) might have the pox but now I'm not so sure. Are the girls pecking at his comb? Here are some pics... Thanks!
