This is a really old thread, but my RIR's 1st eggs were pale. As they have gotten older they have gotten darker. It is normal for 1st eggs to be lighter, it doesn't mean you don't have RIRs. I had one lay an almost white egg once. Turns out she was deficient in Vitamin A. So I boosted her...
With Thanksgiving just around the corner we are preparing to butcher one of our turkeys. We have heard several theories on what to feed your turkey in the weeks leading up to butchering to get a better flavor. Currently our turkeys free range for 90% of their food and we give them a small scoop...
We got 3 brown eggs today! Woohoo! Except, I added 7 more RIRs to our flock this week that are about the same age so the eggs could be coming from them lol. Either way, we are getting eggs and if the newbies are laying the eggs hopefully they will teach the others what they are supposed to be...
The bottom one could be a buff then. The middle pic I would say is royal purple for sure. I have 12 royal purples and they look identical to the pic. I have 2 others that resemble your top pic and they are a mix of a Pearl gray mama and a royal purple papa.
I live in IL. I know a lot of people with turkeys and none of them have a license. Is that for Easterns only? Guess I better start googling and binging.
After looking through more pictures online, I guess they could be Easterns. Not that it makes much of a difference what breed they are really. I am just curious.
Even my male (see pix on top) has a bluish colored head when he is calm. I was told they were bourbon/bronze crosses. The lady I bought them from only had one male and one female on site so there isn't a lot of breeds to choose from. I don't remember what hers looked like though and now she no...
I was told the dangly things on their faces are larger on males than females. After observing mine, the ones who make the double syllable calls all have smaller dangly things (sorry, I don't know what they are called lol) and the one who sound kind of like a chain saw or weed eater have larger...
Meet Tom (real original, I know. My kids named him lol) He is about 5 and half months old in these pictures and I have no idea what breed he is. Or what mix of breeds he could be. I have 2 hens as well that are the same age and all 3 came from the same parents.
