    Rhode Island Red Rooster - Amarillo TX

    Eight-week-olds first night in the coop

    We know the coop is naturally 10 degrees warmer than outside. So unless it drops below 35 for us, we don't put on the lamp for them.

    Getting to know them.

    Handling them and talking to them seems to help. Our Plymouth Rocks will jump in your lap now and want to be petted. We got rid of our Wyandotttes though they seemed to be to wild. I think it just depends on their personality sometimes.

    Moving to coop

    When u can't stand the smell in your bathroom any longer ;) We were told to wait till they were fully feathered and temps above 45.

    YEs, mine have done it in the brooder as well as outside. At first I thought they were hurt till I saw an older hen do the same thing.

    I thought if the 2nd set of feathers was shorter then they were supposed to be females.
