Need help/advice. My hen's comb is 1/2 torn off from her scalp. Included pictures.

Thanks! I didn't know about the "caine" on Chickens. She looks fine now just a little floppy crown. I talked to my vet but he said to just leave it be and see what happens. Thanks again everyone!

Thanks for the responses. The more I look at her the more I think it would be best to cut it off because it is kind of hanging in her face and if she gets it caught again it will rip the rest of it off. I am going to see if I can get lidocaine at least to numb it before dubbing it. I think I...

It is hanging down towards her face. It doesn't look bad until you really look close at it and then it looks like it could easily catch on something and pull off. I feel so badly for her.

I came home and noticed her comb was hanging low on her head and when I looked closer it was ripped right from her scalp. It did not look fresh because I did not see blood, so it could have happened yesterday or this morning. I cleaned it up with peroxide and put neosporin and blue coat on it...

Thanks Raz, I thought that too but I think why I was concerned is because they have been laying hard shells for a few weeks. I guess they are still considered new layers. :) Thanks this is great info! Quote: Originally Posted by chicken grandma I recently read on here that the HEAT can...

I'm in need of help. I have 6 RIR hens and for the most part we are getting between 3-5 eggs a day. Today I had to work 12 hours so wasn't around much. I did get 3 hard shelled eggs before I left. Well tonight I went to go put them into the coop (another problem-not all going in) :). I...

Ironically, we were looking at property north of us and someone told us we'd better check out how picky the towns are before moving in. This confirms that. Sheesh!

It's been slightly cooler here in the evening the last few days. I really thought that might have been the problem. I'll try the treats and fan for now and see what happens. Do you think it could be because of the fireworks? The only problem with that theory is that the go in the coop to...

I was wondering if some of you experienced chicken keepers can help with my new problem. My chickens were all going into the coop at night no problem, every night. UNTIL the 4th. The fireworks were so loud that my nieghbors said they couldn't even have a conversation in their home for about...

    I heard screaming...

OMG that is actually funny in the end. :) It reminds me of when I gave my friend's kids some toys for Christmas. It was some type of battle guys roaming in a car and came with a remote. Well my friend and her husband woke up to some male voices in the middle of the night. Petrified she woke...

need advice! Chickens all of a sudden will not go in coop!

I think it was either the fireworks or the heat, however, it's cool again so I think they just got spooked in the coop. I'm still so angry at that new law! What was he thinking??!!?? There are always people that take things to the extreme. We had people shooting off fireworks for weeks...

What do you mean lock them in for a couple of days? You mean 24/7? What about food and water? Sorry if I sound ignorant I'm just new to this. :)
