To help or not to help?

:( just went out to check and the chick that had the hole had made its way almost 3/4 around the egg but wasn't moving....I peeled back some of the egg and it had died. I am so mad at myself....I should have intervened and helped the baby out.....:(

To help or not to help?

Hello!! I bought a broody silkie mom with a week old baby about 3 weeks ago. The breeder gave me some other silkie fertile eggs to put under her to see if they would hatch ( nice experience for my kids). I honestly did not think that they would hatch and today I went into the garage where...

We had 2 three months olds in there 2 plus a hen...I know it could have been worse but it was still horrible.... I want them to...

Need help!!! Question about a mom and her baby outside in the cold...

Thank you for all of the great advice!! They all came from the same farm a week apart so I am not too worried about disease. The run is in the process of getting made and will hopefully be done by the weekend. The coop is very ventilated and draft free...sealed every possible crack and open...

Need help!!! Question about a mom and her baby outside in the cold...

I am a "newbie" and the winter is starting here in MA. I have 4 younger silkies (3-8 months old), and 2 days ago took a silkie mom, her week old chick and her fertile eggs home. The 4 silkies huddle together in the coop, but the mom will not leave the brood box with the eggs and her baby. I...

    Need advice please! Possible problem....

When I say brood box it is attached to the coop..... if you look to the left of the coop in this picture we built one that is attached and they can freely get to from inside the coop. Everything I read about winter and chicken staying warm says that bantams will huddle together to stay...

Silkie chick question...when to coop with cold temps?

Hi! I have 4 new silkie chickens....2 3month old and 2 8 month old. We have a coop and run done for them, but I am scared to put them all outside in this weather. I know the older ones are ready, but I feel like the 3 month old chicks are still not completely feathered. We live in MA and the...
