    Pullet missing head feathers

I have one golden comet (Scout) that has this issue. 5 chickens (2 golden comets, 1 sapphire gem, 1 black star) no roosters. The buff Orpington (Queenie) harasses her and sometimes the other comet harasses her, too. I’m not sure what to do about Queenie. Scout digs a nice spot in the mulch and...

    Will these breeds get bullied?

Also, I guess individual birds are different. We were concerned that the Buff Orpington would be bullied. Turns out she got her name “Queenie” because she’s the top of the pecking order.

    Moving chickens for day foraging

Mostly, my chickens don’t like to be picked up except sometimes the Buff Orpington will stand on the arm of the chair and insist I take her for a walk. Is this something that gets better as they get older or am I doing it wrong or are my chickens just crazy?🤪

    Moving chickens for day foraging

Thanks for all your input. Sorry to be so long in responding. A lot of this is so I don’t have to choose between being with the girls and being in the greenhouse. I love their company and they seem to like having me around. I also like the idea of making a compost pile with their manure...

    Moving chickens for day foraging

I try to be consistent in luring them into their nighttime digs. They’re mostly consistent over a short distance, but sometimes foraging beats treats. They‘re between 3 and 3-1/2 months old. Maybe they’ll get better or I will 😊 I may not have been clear, but it’s 100’ after going by the house...

    Moving chickens for day foraging

I’ll play with this in their current fence and see how it goes. How long should the stick be? I’m planning on several 30” wide x 2’ tall x 4’ long pvc “boxes” covered in chicken wire so they‘ll only go where I want them. Do you think I’d be able to get them into something like that with a stick...

one side of the house to the other side, then around an outbuilding, plus about 100 more feet. You can’t see one place from the other.

    Moving chickens for day foraging

I have a greenhouse that’s a distance from our chickens. I’d like to be able to move them in for a few hours a day into something like a train system I saw on YouTube or Chunnel to forage weeds and crop residue off completed beds and keep me company. My question is about the best way to...

I did. That many boxes would be more than I need. Thanks for your reply.
