Are we ok the leave the rooster in the sling for a week? Or do we have to take him out at night? We plan to leave him in the sling in a cage in the coop at night. Will his feet be ok from cold? I know normally they cover them with their body at night.
Last night he walked healthy into the coop. This morning he is hobbling around not able to stand up. Looked closely at his feet and they look fine. It’s almost like he injured himself in the coop? We have separated him into a small pen for the day. I am not sure how to tell if it’s an injury or...
Sparky the rooster did not make it. Found him dead in the coop this morning. Thank you for all the help trying to get him better. Still not sure what was wrong.
Looks the same this morning. My husband forgot to check his crop this morning and he has already eaten. Pecking at food a little bit but mostly just standing still. Poop looks runny green and white.
Not sure what a fecal float is but will look it up. Thank you -update, it looks like you need to get set up with a microscope to see any parasite eggs. This will take us a while to get set up. It also looks difficult to actually spot and identify the parasites. Are there any other ways to test...
we sprinkled it on his back mostly and tried to puff some near his vent. We did it two days in a row because we didn’t feel like we put enough on the first night. Then in five six days we checked again, saw no adult lice but wanted to treat for eggs so we used Elector PSP sprayed right on his...
But we have had roosters for years that are fine with the feed. Seems odd just this one would have trouble. Regardless, we have changed his food to chick starter as suggested earlier in this thread. Is there something else to do to help with calcium imbalance (if that’s what you think the...
I will get one in the morning. I really can’t spot anything obviously wrong. All the lice seem to be gone from his body and particularly his vent. I’m wondering if the treatments we used messed him up? Or maybe he is still anemic from the lice? But we’ve been giving him vitamins in the water and...
So rooster is worse today. Still eats meal worms when we throw them in front of him but looks like balance is off and isn’t eating or drinking regularly. Still very weak. Any ideas? I’m completely out of things to try. Breaking my heart
That’s correct, Apple Cider Vinegar. It’s just odd that this one rooster is acting off. All other birds (including two other juvenile roosters) are acting fine. We also have had a rooster since the beginning who was healthy for years before a coyote took him. We’ve always put just a dash of...
Oh interesting. He is typically mixed in with our hens so I’m not sure how I’d get him different feed. He was born here and grew up with the hens so went from chick starter, to grower, to layer feed with the hens. He is about 4 months old
