I've been at this chicken raising thing for quite a while. My first job as a teen in the '70's was working on a chicken ranch gathering eggs for 18,000+ hens every day after school and weekends, NOT a pleasant job, but I worked there daily for a couple of years. I thought I'd never want to be involved in chicken rearing again, but in 2012 I got the bug to raise my own flock in the Canyon country of Northern AZ, starting with only 5 chicks. I was instantly hooked! I grew my flock to as many as 20 chickens and 5 ducks, mostly by letting broody hens hatch a clutch of eggs here and there or by hatching a few in the incubator. Some of my mixed breeds turned out to be some of the most beautiful birds I've seen. Now I'm raising chickens, ducks, a mini-orchard and huge organic garden on a hobby farm in Northern Idaho, with 44 chicks and 21 ducks (all on their way from the hatchery soon!) and loving watching our flocks and our love of this lifestyle continue to grow!

Oh My How We've GROWN! We've got a micro farm now we call Eagle's Dell Farm with 75 chickens, 20 ducks and 4 geese of various breeds,,, plus goats & dogs...
Henry & Toby, (Marvelous Mutts), and their girl Georgia help watch over the flock. ~ It's a wonderful life ~
