Please let me know if she still needs a home. I live in bham, but have had to rehome two of my 5 this weeks because they let us know they are roos! Luckily they are with my inlaws, but we are still sad :( I would like to add to my little flock, but don't want to start over with babies. Hope...
For all of you who voted "roo"...we have a winner! Not thrilled about that one, since my flock of 5 "guaranteed" hens is now down to 3...Not to mention that "little Tater" was my favorite hen. Now I guess I can only hope he doesn't turn mean on us :( Mean Roos and toddlers do not mix!
Happened to me tonight!! When I bought my three EE chicks, they were from a sexed run...ha! I was pretty suspicious of "Amelia" anyway, and when the lovely crow happened, it was confirmed. Luckily my MIL has 4 hens, no roos, and three are EE hens from the same run my roo is from. She has 200...
Well, final verdict is still out on Little Tater...I'll keep y'all posted!
But, tonight, while finishing up their new run, another guaranteed-to-be-hen crowed! I have been planning to post a pic of "him" for input, but he beat me to the punch. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but...
Fred, I found a wonderful explanation of the difference between RIR, New Hampshires, and Productions that you had left on another post! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! This website has been an invaluable resource for me.
If I do have a production red cockerel, my MIL has a New...
PrarieChickens, how old is your hen? She is beautiful!!! She is certainly more broad in the chest than Little Tater.
How I hope you are right! She/he is my absolute favorite!! So very sweet and social with us humans :)
Aw, man! Fred, I hope you're wrong! ;) I'll have to go back and look at pictures for a timetable on the comb. I don't recall...Little Tater's comb has always been different from the other two RSL we got at the same time, from the same brooder box (is that what the little stacked boxes are...
Meet "little Tater", our favorite bird...SUPPOSEDLY a red sex-link hen. By far the calmest and most social of our flock. I have my suspicions about breed/gender, but I'm a newbie. Therefore, I am reaching out to the BYC community for tips, suggestions. Little Tater is 12 weeks, no spurs, no...
Thanks for all of your suggestions! I ended up going with a NEW, heavy duty staple gun with longer staples and have had more success. My hens have been keeping a close eye on the progress, so hopefully they will be moving into their new pad soon :)
Thanks, Cyndi! I have already bought the supplies and framed it out, so I'll have to proceed with my original concept for this one, but we have talked about building another small run in another part of our yard (2 acres), and something lightweight and portable would be awesome. I'll keep your...
Good morning! We have been building a new run for our 16 wk old hens and are to the point of attaching the poultry wire. Before I hear the suggestions regarding the use of hardware cloth rather than chicken wire, this run is located within a 6 ft. privacy fence, just a few yards from our back...
