My female mallard lost her only flock mate recently and just won't stop quacking. We got her a new friend, which helped for a couple days....but now the quacking is worse. I am trying to be patient but I can't keep this up for much longer. So I am listening in on this thread
I'm not sure that I am posting this right. Grrrr. Anyway, Just recently, we had a coon break into our coop and kill my male mallard. He and the female have been together since they were chic's and were the only two ducks we had. After the loss, my female understandably was upset. She quacked...
Well shoot. Here is a more updated photo. Sure thing, I have a boy. I have absolutely no clue how to deal with this. I purchased two girls because I have no experience with mating, chicks, or anything of that nature. Which eggs can I eat,how do you know if they have been fertilized? Help.
Here are their photos. The one on the left is larger, with a greenish bill and has a raspy, soft quack. That is also the more docile one. Just recently the markings around its face have begun to change too. The one on the right quacks loudly and is more aggressive, Are they the same sex...
I added two mallards chicks to my chicken flock in early April. Both were supposed to be girls. But something, call it intuition, immediatly had me wondering if one was male. As they have grown, being 2+ months old now, they both look pretty much identical. However, one is larger than the other...
I have four chickens; approx 2 years old: They have never been the greatest egg layers by any means but I could usually count on 2-3 eggs a day.
It used to be we cooped them during the winter months and let them free range during Spring and Summer. However, they have been tearing up my...
the second one, I cant really tell. (The breed might help to know) But the others are girls, I am pretty sure :) Roo's are typically thinner and have sharper feathers, where a hens are more rounded.
I had a hole on the side of my coop that was dry rotted. We painted over it, thinking they would leave it alone.....paint has got to taste yucky right, but nope, and now its three times bigger. I think once they start, they dont stop. But its worth a try just to see if it might work :)
I read on wikepedia that dominant hens in small flocks without a roo will stop laying, and even mimick a roo, as far as crowing and trying to mate. Excuse me for being blunt, but WTH?????
Has anyone ever had experiences with this? Is it rare?
I have four chickens.....a red sex link...
thank you! In anwser to the question, no their are no signs of damage, other than being exluded from the flock. I dont know how long it typically takes for exsisting hens to accept new ones, but its been almost a week. My new one hides out in the coop all day long while the others graze in...
I have three girls in my original flock. I have since gotten one more, who I am currently trying to acclimate to my other chickens. I have done everything I have been advised to do, to make it an easy transition, and though the newbie still keeps her distance from the others, it is going well...
This is the first time in 10 years that we have had chickens......my memory is a bit rusty to a lot of details. We have three pullets who just started to lay, two of which havent laid anything in quite a few days.
My hubby did some research on line and read that, the more room the chickens...
Hey there. I have three 5 month old pullets who recently started to lay~ two sex links, and a wyandette. The wyandette has laid beautiful eggs since day one, but the two sex links, seem to be struggling. They started laying a couple weeks ago....and at first things seemed fine, I was getting...
