Ok, so I locked down 37 moving chicks out of 47 set and all is going well on my end! I can't wait to see these silkies (and Brahma but more the silkies ) faces this weekend... I hope I get some all black colored chicks also...
I am going to guess 7420 posts at midnight Mahonri time
Good...
I candled my eggs a few times over the last few days and I see movement in almost all of them. I have pulled 3 with blood rings but all the others look pretty good so far. I'm hoping for as many as I can from the 47 I started with
Well the waiting has begun... all is well @ 99.5 - 100.1 with humidity around 50% so I thought I would post some pics of the silkie roo (and brahma hen and a few RIR hens) who hopefully got the job done again this time
and here he is again, showing off...
Hey all... I had a crazy week in Los Angeles on business but I did get my eggs set today and here is a numbered picture of them. I will be setting 47 eggs ... a mix of silkies and brahmas!
I just learded that my sony DSC-S75 doesn't work with 64 bit Windows 7, which is my new and only...
I noticed my new silkie chick is way behind his brahma hatch mates... the little guy is perfect but still can't seem to figure how to keep his feet under him and I had to help him out of his shell even. Not sure what I would do if I were in your spot but I would probably see if it could handle...
I just had a hatch last weekend which was my first hatch. I'd like to thank everyone on BYC for the helpful words of knowledge as it certainly is a great resource! I didn't think I would be able to participate as I wasn't going to be in town but my plans have changed and I will be able to set...
As far as I understand it, for chickens, it is 21 twenty four hour periods @ 99.5 internal egg temp. If the internal egg temp is hotter than 99.5 then they hatch sooner... colder, later. I think that duck eggs take 28 days for some species and 34 for others.
I'm in Michigan... I purchased 10 silkie chicks from a breeder in Lansing early this spring. Needless to say I am down to 2 females (1 white and 1 black) and 3 males (2 white and 1 black)... plus this new day old chick
Did I mention that I hate hawks?
I agree... I am starting another group of eggs on the 10th after a business trip I am taking that week for a new years day hatch. I wish there was someone around me that I could trade some eggs with but haven't found anyone yet... I need to mix up my silkie genetics.
might as well just say it takes 21 plus days as I just went through my first ever hatch and the waiting is insane... but so darn awesome when they come out!
So here are two pics of the first and only silkie to hatch... unbelievably adorable!
and also number two which should be a straight brahma.
There is also a third brahma still trying to eggscape as well
I am very jealous... very nice to have them on Turkey day! Mine are due Saturday morning but I still have a feeling I might get a few early. I have one silkie egg that is wiggling pretty good but no pip yet...
So I candled the 9 eggs I thought were going well and it looks like I am down to 6 live ones. I will post more pictures here as they hatch out this weekend... wish them luck!
