Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I'll be here with you as much as possible , but very much looking forward to seeing my wandering son who is stopping here for Christmas , enroute from Alaska to South America

Steve - Where in Alaska was your son? I am near Anchorage.

BTW, we are hovering between 5 above to 5 below, and the wind is picking up. Would trade some of you (not you Lotsapaints!

) for your rain!

It's so nice to meet other people who deal with the level of stupid we do on a daily basis! Most people on get minimal amounts of stupid, we get heaped with it!

The first time someone asked me if their medication came in a different flavor "because this chocolate is godawful" I had the unfortunate reality of asking what the medication was...

"phenergan supp"

oh no... that "supp" was short for suppository.

At least they unwrapped it first.

Bob's Henhouse :

Warden, Mary, Next time i have a package to ship I'm gonna hire you to do it. They arrived intact, none broken. I thought about candling to see if they got scrambled, but figure I'll just let them rest for awhile, put them in the bator, and candle when I can actually see something. Thank you bunches and bunches!

Started raining here with some authority about an hour and a half ago, finally. Been kinda spitting for a few minutes throughout the day. Got home just in time to put the food out for the chickens to get rained on.

Now, I'm going to have to go find them all wherever they are hiding to get them into the coop since it's now dark. poor little goobers. Put plastic up over half the "Arizona Room" last night since they were too silly to go into the henhouse to roost, preferring to sit in the rain instead.

WARNING: Do NOT candle those eggs. It's addicting, and you'll find yourself pulling them out to have a look. They are just WAY too easy to see into!!!!

I candled my eggs a few times over the last few days and I see movement in almost all of them. I have pulled 3 with blood rings but all the others look pretty good so far. I'm hoping for as many as I can from the 47 I started with

Don't forget walking on a slip and slide to do your chicken chores. That mud is slippery stuff!

Mine is the nasty sticky caliche (sp???) that gets super squishy and sucks your feet in then sticks to your shoes and boots in 2" - 3" depths that turn to cement when it dries. Ok, I really really need to build that path I was going to do and then forget about between each rain spell...

We did a hike through the rain up on the rim last August. I swear I had caliche stuck to the bottom of my shoes 5" thick!

It was horrid.

Glad I have grass and walkways in my back yard. It's coming down pretty good now. I covered both of my pens with tarps... Coop is nice and dry and cozy.
