Had a chick hatch with a red bulb at his rear

Thanks, Kristen. If, by some miracle, we get a hen out of this hatch, I'll tell HR we should name her after you!

Had a chick hatch with a red bulb at his rear

There's hardly any water left in the incubator at all now, but the cardboard cartons HR put the eggs in seem damp. The humidity has risen back to 69% already, but I guess there isn't much more I can do unless I take them out of the cartons. It's almost 1:00 am, I guess I should go to bed and...

You keep it at 45-50% all the way through? I thought it was supposed to be higher after day 18. I've read and read and read, but I just feel frustrated and confused now. I've put saran wrap on that guy 3 times, and try and I might, I can't keep it on him, he keeps kicking it off. I'm afraid...

Had a chick hatch with a red bulb at his rear

It's back to 72% humidity but I notice another chick has pipped. I don't know whether to try to take out more water, though there doesn't seem to be a lot in there, and it's hard to do with all the eggs, the chick, and the screen to get to the water. Also, the temp. has only made it back up to...

climbed back to 65% already and it's only 94 degrees yet. I'm afraid to open it again.

No; I don't know what kind it is. It was my gram's. I took some more water out, the temp. dropped to 94 degrees while I had it opened and trying to put wrap on the chick's bottom. He is far from pleased about it, I assure you. The humidity dropped to 60%. I'm hoping and praying it stays...

Had a chick hatch with a red bulb at his rear

Is it too late? Today was day 19; we just took the turner out last night and we had a chick already today. The humidity's climbing again. It's supposed to be around 60%, right?

Had a chick hatch with a red bulb at his rear

Alright, I tried to put saran wrap on the chick; I don't know how good of a job I did, but it stuck to his bottom. I also absorbed some of the water out of the incubator while I had it open; didn't seem like that much in it. The humidity has been high all day; now it's in the mid-60s. Going...

We've opened both air plugs. I can't do anything else without removing the lid. Will that kill the others? I should put saran wrap on the chick? It is a tabletop, styrofoam, still air incubator.

Also, I can't seem to get my humidity down. It's been in the 70s, percentage-wise. The kids were all excited with the chick and another has pipped, but I'm wondering if any of them will make it.

thought it would be absorbed. Went down to check on him a little bit later and see it has broken open and there is a yellowish-brown liquid in the bottom of the incubator. What happened? Is he going to make it?

Humidity in a styrofoam still air incubator

I really don't know. He has a temperature and humidity "sensor" inside the incubator, but what I don't understand is how the eggs would dry out. He says if this one doesn't work, we'll try again, but I don't know what else to do. I told him maybe we ought to get a different kind of incubator...

Humidity in a styrofoam still air incubator

This is HR's wife, I visit here on and off, trying to learn how best to help our chickens. We are on our second attempt using a still air styrofoam incubator that my grandmother gave us when she moved back from Florida. Our last attempt at hatching showed beautiful promise--saw veins and...

I can't get the humidity up in my incubator.

My guage is working right, it has been right on for a long time. I don't have much water vapor forming on the glass either, I would think with all that water in there that I would. There is no room for pans because the entire bottom that is not open water channels is water filled sponge. Thanks...
