Please Help/advice-found my girl hanging upside down, think her leg is broken

Try offering her some plain scrambled eggs - most chickens love that and it's good for her. :) I hope she continues to heal!

    My rooster really hates me!

I agree with you Michael - I can deal with a somewhat aggressive roo. The psycho ones you can't turn your back on are another story, but I felt that respect for that White Leghorn we had. He was so brave defending his girls, I decided he earned his place, and I just had to stay on my toes...

    My rooster really hates me!

We had a feathered foot rooster [Cochin?] that was really nice, and a Polish mix who was never aggressive towards us. On the other hand, we've had the following who were aggressive: White Leghorn, Bantam Seabright, Buff Orpington. The Buff Orp was big and aggressive as all git out. The...

(Graphic photo) Injured rooster, need advice.

Wow, that's rough! I agree with the other advice given. Keeping it clean and open will speed healing. Antibiotics are definitely a good idea - whatever bit him had bacteria in the saliva, and a deep bite puncture just places that bacteria down deep in the tissue, so normal cleansing isn't...

So glad to hear you are seeing some progress - I bet now that the fluid has been released, you'll see faster improvement.

I think my rooster is sick

Could the snoring sound be congestion? Maybe he's coming down with an upper respiratory illness? Most people use Tylan, which I believe you can get at TSC. I've not dealt with upper resp. in my birds, so hopefully someone experienced with this will chime in. I would separate him, just in...

    Sick hens

The first thing I would suspect is coccidia. Do you have any Corid? You can get the powder at TSC [it's labeled for cows] and mix 1/2 tsp per gallon of water. Make sure they have only the treated water to drink for 7 days. I'd probably also want to offer all of them plain yogurt, to help...

    vaseline for frost bite prevention?

That's what I've read...you just coat their comb with it and it holds in the natural body heat, I guess. It's a good idea to get them used to being picked up and held, so that when the time comes, you can do this kind of stuff to them without too much fracas. :)

Is this possible? Or am I missing something?

Vent gleet maybe? It's hard to say...could be any number of things. Does her crop feel hard? Could she have something stuck in her crop or somewhere in her system that could be causing a digestive blockage? This is my "can't hurt, might help" collection of ideas: I'd give her soaks in...

Chicken with squishy crop & gasping/silent crowing

Wow, I'm impressed you could get something solid down a chicken's throat! I hadn't been on here for a few days, so I just saw this thread. Glad to hear you're seeing improvement! :)

Can we get a list together of chicken breeds that can be crossed to produce sex linked or auto sexin

Yeah, I noticed it said "silver factor white" and I wondered how do you know if it has a silver factor??? I'm going to have to settle for black sex links, because I have my heart set on a RIR rooster to go along with a few RIR girls to make more RIRs, and so I ordered a couple Barred Rock gals...

    Runny poo?

I use an empty, cleaned out gallon container from ice tea that I bought, to mix up a batch of Corid water and then I fill their water dish from that jug, so I don't have to alter the measurement. I'm on the second gallon mix now, after 3 days of giving it and not too much wasted. If the dish...

Link to telling sex of Rhode Island Red Rooster and Hens

I went to TSC at least three times when they had chicks this year and they never had what I wanted. After April, McMurray only requires a 15 chick min. and that's what I ended up getting. I got mostly RIRs, 3 Black Australorps, a couple of Barred Rock, a couple EE, and a couple New Hamp Red...

RIR Cockerel and Pullet - see the differerence at 5 wks old

It's great to be able to see the differences, but if I didn't know I had some of each sex, I don't know if I'd be able to guess what they were. They seem to be coming along nicely; I've been very happy with the whole experience of ordering from McMurray and I would definitely order from there...

    Treats for chicks?

Thanks, that's very helpful! Our farmer neighbor just gifted us some of his newly picked sweet corn, so I will definitely let them have some fun pecking at the ends of the cobs. :)
