vaseline for frost bite prevention?

i think ive heard of vaseline being used for frost bite prevention before. is this true?? the nights keep getting colder and colder here and i dont want to take the chance of my rooster getting frost bite for spring.
 
That's what I've read...you just coat their comb with it and it holds in the natural body heat, I guess. It's a good idea to get them used to being picked up and held, so that when the time comes, you can do this kind of stuff to them without too much fracas. :)
