Dogs that are less prone to kill?

My dog killed a hen and a rooster when we got him as a 6 month old rescue... He was trained, and hasn't killed in years. There's a grey area in this family. Dogs are a serious time commitment, I agree. I will be looking for a companion, or replacement for him when he passes, which is why I am...

Dogs that are less prone to kill?

I don't think anything is as black and white as that. My dog is being trained to stay away from the ducklings with lots of supervision. And he is completely trustworthy with the adult ducks, and all chickens. He could care less, and hasn't touched one in three years, (when his training began)...

Dogs that are less prone to kill?

Also, I talked to a few lgd breeders yesterday about both Great Pyrenees, and Anatolians, but the issue I would run into is fencing. We have barbed wire fence on 3/4 sides of the ten acres, and woven wire on 1/4 that borders the private road. All breeders agree that most lgds roam, but these...

Dogs that are less prone to kill?

Thank you everyone! I've been working with my dog everyday since the last incident. Every time he looks at the ducklings/goslings, I run at him and growl and shake the scuff of his neck, or his head. It's quite a sight :) But he's completely freaked out by it. And then I use the command "Get!"...

Dogs that are less prone to kill?

That's more or less what I've gathered from my own research. I have an amazing dog, who doesn't bother any of the full sized birds on our property, but this is the first time we've had ducklings. And even with constant supervision, and harsh correction for even coming NEAR the ducklings, he has...

Dogs that are less prone to kill?

Are there any medium-large dogs breeds that as a whole, are less prone to killing/chasing ducks, geese, and chickens? I've even heard of many lgd breeds that are prone to chicken/duck killing up until a certain age. I have to have an outside dog to keep other dogs and coyotes at bay.... But not...

    New Muscovy Owner Questions

Two of my ducks were in molt when I picked them up, the drake and one hen. It just seemed early compared to when my chickens usually molt, so I thought...... Maybe.... There's a chance they will start again. They are growing their feathers back in very well. :)

    New Muscovy Owner Questions

Ok, great! I appreciate the input. We aren't much for lights in the coop. Haven't done it for the chickens in years. I will post more pictures periodically, and thank you for the link! :)

    New Muscovy Owner Questions

I recently purchased three hens, and a drake, and one of my hens came with her 6 ducklings. I'm really enjoying them so far, and they haven't had any issues. We live in Washington so I know they will be very seasonal layers...BUT.... :) ..... Will my momma hen lay again this year if she's...
