I have a poor sgraggly looking Isabel Ameracauna hen that is crowing. She sounds just like just like a rooster and her comb is much darker than the other. Her flock of 7 has two other Ameracaunas, 3 easter eggers, and 1 rrr. Isn't it usually the top of the pecking order who takes on rooster...
I have 7 pullets getting ready to lay. No roosters. One easter egger started laying about 3 weeks ago. Our RRI is the only other one doing the submissive squat. Two days ago I was throwing scratch and my one laying hen plucked out a feather from the back of my RRI. I assume that she didn't...
The first two pics (orange tie) I am pretty sure is a roo. Pinky (bottom 2 pics) is questionable. None of them have the bright red combs that I would expect from a roo at 18 weeks, although the first roo turned a brighter red at a younger age than the others.
One like to stick his head up and "watch" the flock while they eat. He stands between our dogs and the hens. He comes to me and checks me out first (along with our RIR hen). His hackle feathers are a little longer and pointier. One of our hens has all the feathers removed from the back of her...
I am still trying to see if one of my ameraucanas is a roo or hen at 18 weeks. I know I will find out soon enough but would like to know if we have two roos. There are 3. The first two pics are tangerine (orange tie) and I am 80% sure he is a roo. The next pics are blue (left) and pinky...
I don't know. They are 16 weeks old and I haven't figured that out yet. I would think that it is a little early for mounting behavior yet and I haven't seen any shenanigans.
I recently noticed that there is a patch of feathers missing from the back of my 3 month old ameraucana missing. Is this picking behavior or do I need to look for pests? Should I treat the area in some way?
