I have a poor sgraggly looking Isabel Ameracauna hen that is crowing. She sounds just like just like a rooster and her comb is much darker than the other. Her flock of 7 has two other Ameracaunas, 3 easter eggers, and 1 rrr. Isn't it usually the top of the pecking order who takes on rooster duties? She is definitely not it. All 6 have the top of their feathers near the tail picked off except 1 (easter egger named stubs because her tail feathers fell off and never came back). I would have thought stubs would be top chicken. Should I put aprons on them to protect their feathers? I checked them all over for disease, mites, etc and all look perfectly healthy except their feathers. I did bluekote, just in case. Added permithrin to bedding. I am getting them an activity center because I think it is boredom. They are all laying, even our hen-rooster.
